A Reminder That Accusation Is Not Guilt

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Inevitably, people will exploit the ongoing sexual misconduct hysteria. Expect to see more cases like that of a brat in Burlington, Vermont named Logan Huysman, whose obnoxious behavior forced a police officer to arrest her last June.

When she took to social media with shrill claims that the officer had sexually assaulted her, Chief Brandon del Pozo replied by posting the bodycam footage. It does not cast young Logan in a favorable light.

During the 90-minute ordeal, Huysman demanded that the officer pay her $80 for her marijuana bong, threatened suicide, performed cartwheels, destroyed paperwork, reached into her waistband and simulated producing a gun with her hand, pointing it at officers, screamed at officers, resisted arrest, and assaulted officers.

Her father must rue every time that he should have spanked her but didn’t. To his immense credit, he sided with the police.

Not the ACLU though:

“There’s a fine line between engaging the community, which is something we want our law enforcement officers to do, and doing what some might see as trying to shut down conversations,” said Jay Diaz, an attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union of Vermont…

Presenting evidence of the truth is bad because it shuts down conversations. No doubt the same policy applies in college classrooms.

Whatever they do, the police are always wrong — until the sort of leftists who infest the ACLU have secured total control of the government. Then we will have utopia, and no one will ever suggest that the police might do anything wrong.

In the meantime, we had better not forget that even though there are a lot of creeps like Harvey Weinstein and Al Franken out there, accusation does not equal guilt in the absence of evidence.

Bodycams are not a false accuser’s friend.

On a tip from Becky in Washington. Hat tip: Right-Mind.
