Affirmative Action Mentality Leaches Meaning from Cannes Awards

People are finally catching on that prizes awarded on an Affirmative Action basis are worse than meaningless; they are an insult:

The Lebanese director tipped to become only the second woman ever to win the top prize at the Cannes film festival will be very annoyed if her accolade is billed as the feminist choice of a #MeToo jury.

“There’s a risk that some people would interpret it in that way, which would be very irritating because it would have the opposite effect. Instead of honouring women they’d be saying ‘You’re here because you’re a woman’,” Nadine Labaki told AFP.

Being a woman might not be the only reason other than her talent that she was there.

This year’s festival, which features five directors from North Africa and the Middle East, is one of the best in half a century for Arab cinema.

The association with Islam makes all things Arab politically preferable.

As it turns out, she got the Jury Prize and Japanese veteran Hirokazu Kore-Eda took the Palme d’Or. The Grand Prize went to the odious Spike Lee for his latest race-baiting B.S., which alone might fulfill this year’s quota for political correctness.

Why not chuck moonbattery and go back to merit? Then when Nadine Labaki wins awards, she can take full pride in them.
