Shame on Temple

“I may be an owl, but I’m not wise.”

It’s hardly a man bites dog story given the state of affairs in academia, but  it is worth pointing out what happened at Philadelphia’s Temple University ( home of the Owls) last week when a pro-Palestinian event paid tribute to Palestinian terrorists.

Of course, the event featured that absurd academic invention called intersectionality, which tries to lump all of the left’s favorite causes together. In this case, Israel is responsible for all the world’s ills, including the grievances of African-Americans.

I wonder if the powers that be at Temple would tolerate an event dedicated to naming the innocent victims of George Habash, whose specialty was hijacking airplanes. (What a contribution to the world.) Rest assured such an event would be disrupted by the likes of Students for Justice in Palestine.

Doing a little research into the Fousesquawk archives, I note that in 2014, Temple made news when one of its “professors”, a guy named Alessio Lerro, questioned the 6 million Jewish dead Holocaust figure while decrying that Jews had too much influence in academia, an argument once made by Hitler. Complaints of anti-semitism have been made often at Temple in recent years. The David Horowitz site, Stop Jew Hatred on Campus, listed Temple at number 8 on the top ten list of most anti-semitic activity in the US for 2014.

But look at it this way: Not everything about Philadelphia can be wonderful.
