Crackdown on Press Continues in Nicaragua

Democrats would rather shut the government down than provide funding for a border wall because they know that the more people invade from Central America, the more the USA will resemble Central America, where the concept of limited government is not an impediment to those who know what’s best for everyone. Nicaragua is a case in point:

The director of a TV station critical of President Daniel Ortega was accused Saturday of inciting terrorism after authorities raided and shut down the station’s offices in their latest salvo against independent media and nongovernmental organizations.

Miguel Mora’s 100% Noticias channel has been getting under Ortega’s skin by deviating from the official line.

Mora’s wife, Veronica Chavez, who is also a journalist, accused police at a news conference of carrying out a “kidnapping” of her husband “on orders of the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and (first lady and Vice President) Rosario Murillo.”

Mora must have been an evil rich person who had it coming. Otherwise, a progressive saint like Daniel Ortega — long revered by American liberals like Bernie Sanders — surely would not have had him dragged off to jail for committing journalism.

Mora appeared in court in the morning wearing a blue prisoner’s uniform and was formally accused of “provocation, proposition and conspiracy to commit terrorist acts,” according to a court document.

“Provocation.” Sounds serious. They had better throw the book at him.

The document alleged that Mora, through the 100% Noticias channel, incited hate with messages and “false news” that purportedly provoked people to violent acts in protests this year that have demanded Ortega’s exit from office.

Inciting hate with fake news is also frowned upon by our own liberal establishment. Fortunately, people here are not hauled off to jail for it yet.

100% Noticias is now off the air. It will no longer impede the Nicaraguan people as they march in unison toward utopia.

As mentioned earlier, utopia will not be much fun for journalists.
