A Just Society: Another Catastrophic Scheme From AOC

Her Green New Deal, reminiscent of the transformational schemes imposed by the Khmer Rouge, was not the last word in utopian lunacy from the Future of the Democratic Party, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. That plan aims to impose communism in the name of the climate. With “A Just Society,” she takes a slightly more incremental approach by radically expanding the welfare state. This is done largely by redefining poverty to make self-sufficient people eligible for a variety of welfare programs — i.e., empowering them to confiscate other people’s money via Big Government.

The stated goal is to end “income inequality.” There is only one way to do this: give the government power to prevent anyone from earning more than anyone else. Everything must be held to a lowest common denominator. This entails disincentivizing every positive quality that allows the human race to advance: hard work, creativity, innovation, ambition, et cetera.

As Matt Weidinger of the American Enterprise Institute notes, a 2018 report found that if the standard used in Ocasio-Cortez’s legislation were applied to the residents of New York City, roughly 40 percent of all households would be considered impoverished, compared to only 14 percent under the current standards.

Raising the poverty line would push tens of millions into federal programs like Medicaid and food stamps.

Some are more equal than others under socialist rule. As noted recently (e.g., here and here), criminals occupy a high rung on the social justice ladder.

The Just Society proposal would also prevent government agents from denying convicted criminals access to federal welfare, health, disability, education, and other government social and welfare benefits on the basis of their conviction – regardless of how serious the offense was.

Illegal aliens, an even higher rung:

The same would be true for immigrants who are residing in the United States illegally. Under Ocasio-Cortez’s plan, immigration status cannot prevent welfare eligibility, giving millions of people now here in violation of federal law access to taxpayer-funded public benefits.

Keep in mind that Democrats are rigidly opposed to any effective border defense and to the enforcement of immigration law. In essence, this would put the entire planet on an extravagantly generous American welfare system.

A Just Society would also escalate the homelessness epidemic that has been turning California into something out of a zombie apocalypse movie:

The Just Society would also enact strict housing price controls on landlords, lowering the incentives for developers to construct new housing projects.

Fortunately, AOC only represents the lunatic fringe of the Democrat Party. Unfortunately, “the lunatic fringe of the Democrat Party” is redundant.

AOC’s fellow socialist Elizabeth Warren has been running close with the imploding Joe Biden for the presidential nomination.

“It’s going to take big, structural change to tackle poverty and inequality in the U.S., and @AOC’s ‘A Just Society’ is just the type of bold, comprehensive thinking we’ll need to get it done,” Warren recently tweeted.

Warren, among other presidential candidates, also endorsed AOC’s insane and malevolent Green New Deal. The lunatic fringe is the Democrat Party.
