FreedomWorks Statement in Response to San Marcos Teacher’s Threats

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to recent video of a San Marcos High School teacher berating students because of their parents’ concerns Laura Zorc, FreedomWorks Director of Education Reform, commented:

“Yelling at a class full of students about how sick you are of their parents is unfathomable. Trying to create a divide between students and parents is the antithesis of what should be happening in public schools.

“While these comments are disgusting on their own, they’re also an indicator of a larger problem that we are seeing across the country. Many in our school system don’t believe that parents should be intimately involved in their children’s education. We see this with those who oppose school choice and push radical curriculum while disregarding parent’s input on these issues.

“Many in the system also have an idea of what they believe your child should be, but children are more than ‘a job,’ and parents are ultimately responsible for their children and their upbringing.”
