The deranged passenger ran off into the night. The following day, Gendarmes and firefighters responded to a fire not far away from the scene of the accident. Charging at the cops with an iron bar and a knife and shouting, “Allahu Akhbar“, he was shot in the abdomen and taken to a hospital in serious condition.

Mornas: Gendarmes forced to shoot man who had caused bus accident on A7

A man was shot and wounded by gendarmes after having threatened them. He had been sought since Saturday for having caused a bus accident injuring 14 people

A man of about 40 was shot and wounded by gendarmes this afternoon in the area of Mornas on Highway A7. He had been sought since last evening by the (Gendarmes) after a bus accident that occurred on this same highway and which resulted in 14 passengers being slightly injured.

According to our information, this man was on board a BlaBlaCar bus that was en route to Lyon. Arriving at Mornas, the man reportedly tried to take control of the steering wheel from the driver, causing the accident. The coach then left the road, but fortunately, came to rest on its wheels. Major rescue operations were deployed to take care of the injured while the Gendarmes of the Departmental Squad of Highway Safety (EDSR) of Vaucluse went in search of the passenger who (caused) the accident and who had fled. All through the night, searches were conducted in the sector to find the (person) of interest.

On Sunday, it was finally the start of a brush fire near a house located not far from the area of Mornas, which forced the Gendarmes to intervene along with firefighters. Arriving at the scene, two (officers) saw a man emerge from the bushes. Armed with an iron bar and a knife, the individual reportedly charged the Gendarmes, screaming, “Allahu Akhbar“. In spite of warnings, the individual did not drop his weapons, forcing the officers to open fire in his direction. Hit in the abdomen, the man was taken care of by the emergency personnel and hospitalized in Avignon in serious condition.

At this stage, his motivations are not yet known. The prosecutor’s office of Carpentras has opened an investigation that was assigned the gendarmes of the Investigative Brigade of Orange.
