Why the long wait?
These delays aren’t due to the rapid growth from developments the Town of Irmo approves when they annex in our community. Not yet, anyway.
My continued focus on fixing our roads, especially in the Dutch Fork/Irmo/Chapin area, keeps our area getting a lot of attention! SCDOT has informed me this situation (at traffic signals) happens when they are resurfacing major roads/intersections. I’ve been told once the contractor completes the resurfacing, the “traffic loops” will be installed and the timing of the lights should function as they have before.
We’ve seen a lot of potholes filled, roads resurfaced, safety strips added, turn signals added, signal timing changed, sidewalks installed and in planning, traffic signs added and more over the years out here. I want to be sure we are getting what we need, when we need it and that’s why you being my eyes and ears out there helps me better serve you and your neighbors!
As always, y’all continue to keep me posted of any lengthy wait times you see or back ups (I’m working on Wessinger Rd as I type and recently helped out on Kennerly Road) and I will work with SCDOT to help keep us moving along.
We’ll need more patience as the bridge on 76 is due to be repaired very soon and as we continue to finally see progress from the Richland County Penny Tax program with the widening of Broad River Road.
