The New York Post reports:
Brian Romero — a former legislative aide hoping to succeed his ex-boss Jessica González-Rojas, who is headed to the State Senate — is already confronting his first self-inflicted budget crisis. …
He set up a GoFundMe campaign to help pay the bills.
The unemployed Romero won his primary in a blowout in a Queens district so blue that Republicans aren’t bothering to field a candidate. Once in Albany, he may be able to craft legislation so that people are no longer compelled to beg on GoFundMe, because free money bestowed by the government will meet all their needs.
Romero said he tried but failed to navigate an unemployment insurance system he calls “broken” and says it makes him “very passionate” about addressing that issue.
Last year Romero made $106,469 as a legislative aide. Now he can’t pay his rent, proving that he is just the guy to put in charge of spending other people’s money.
