A Son Converts to Islam, and a Year Later Murders His Father

Alexander Z. was a Ukrainian who fought the Russians, and then, seeking a more peaceful existence, moved with his 15-year-old son to Dortmund, in Germany. His son began to take an interest in Islam, read the Qur’an, found it compelling, and converted to Islam. And then, a year into his conversion, he got into a verbal fight with his father, and stabbed him to death. Dortmund (North Rhine-Westphalia) – Alexander Z. (49) once stood in a trench in Ukraine, dressed in combat gear. Clutching an assault rifle, he defended his homeland against Putin’s invading army. Yet he did not meet his death on the battlefield: it was his own son (15) who allegedly plunged a knife into the soldier’s chest after the family had moved to Dortmund, striking while his father lay on the couch.

Two stab wounds struck the soldier, piercing his lung and heart. Emergency responders fought in vain to save the father’s life. Alexander Z. died, covered in blood, on the couch. His son Kevin, who had called emergency services himself, was arrested at the scene.

Neighbors describe him as kind and polite. BILD learned from investigative sources that the teenager had converted to Islam a year prior to the crime.

According to information obtained by BILD, the homicide squad suspects that the youth may have become radicalized. It remains unclear whether this constitutes a motive for the alleged murder of his own father. Friends of the teenager told *BILD* that Kevin owned a Quran and prayed daily on a rug in his bedroom. He reportedly also visited a mosque regularly….

He wasn’t just a convert to Islam, but one who took his new religion very seriously, praying the five canonical prayers, and regularly visiting the mosque. In other words, an extremely devout Muslim — as so many Western converts to the faith tend to be. That’s what the word used by the Homicide Squad — “radicalized” — really means.

Another neighbour recalls the day of the brutal attack: she heard Alexander Z.’s screams. “Then it suddenly became quiet,” said the resident….

Ali Mojab (36) has taken on the teenager’s defense. The experienced lawyer [a devout Muslim and defender of the faith] told BILD: “In order to be able to give a definitive assessment, the exact circumstances of the crime must first be clarified. It must also be examined whether, in this case, dialing the emergency number could constitute a defense that exempts him from criminal liability.”

It is clear that a violent verbal argument between father and son ended in the son, unable to control himself, stabbing his father to death. What might they have been arguing over? There had apparently been many such arguments in the last year. Let me guess: the father objected to the son’s conversion to Islam, and became increasingly upset over the past year with the son’s steadily deepening faith. Every day, the father faced the outward and visible signs of that conversion: he could hear his son intoning his prayers in his room five times a day, could sometimes see him — if the door to the room was left ajar — turned Meccawards and bowing as he said those canonical prayers.

His son, arguing with the father about Islam on many occasions, came to realize that his father could not be made to see the light, and was intent on turning him from the one true path, the one true faith. His father remained a stubborn Infidel, one of the Enemy Camp, a non-Muslim who would not leave off pestering him about his faith. Islam teaches that if a non-Muslim parent commands a child to renounce Islam, worship others besides Allah, or engage in a forbidden act, the child must disobey that specific command, because obedience to Allah takes absolute priority.

And so he suddenly became determined to once and for all stop his father from continually arguing about Islam. He would not listen; he had to be shut up; the constant arguments were wearing the son down. And that’s why the son took up a knife as his father slept, unaware, on the couch…
