Yemen Reaper Missile Incident

On October 30, 2024, U.S. military MQ-9 Reaper drones operating off the coast of Yemen captured footage of an unidentified aerial object tracking a steady course above the waves. A second Reaper, operating in a coordinated buddy-lasing configuration, engaged the object with an AGM-114 Hellfire missile. The missile struck — yet the object continued flying, apparently undamaged or with only small fragments breaking off of it.

The incident involved active-duty U.S. military drone operators conducting operational surveillance in a declared combat zone. The footage was classified and held until September 9, 2025, when Rep. Eric Burlison released it publicly at a Congressional UAP hearing after receiving it from an anonymous whistleblower. No official authentication has been provided.

This case stands as one of the most operationally significant UAP encounters on record: a known advanced weapons system was actively engaged against an unidentified object, and the object apparently survived. Hellfire missile failed to destroy the object

An AGM-114 Hellfire, designed to defeat armoured vehicles and capable of destroying hardened targets, appeared to strike the object without detonating or disabling it. The object continued on its original trajectory after impact, and what appeared to be fragments or debris tumbled away. No known conventional aerial object — including Houthi UAVs — is documented as capable of surviving a direct Hellfire engagement.

Active combat context and chain of custody

The engagement took place in a designated combat zone during active U.S. naval operations, lending operational credibility to the footage. The video was transmitted to Congress by a military whistleblower, with Rep. Burlison confirming that an independent review was ongoing. Investigative journalist George Knapp additionally testified before Congress that entire server banks of similar footage exist and have been withheld from oversight bodies.
