Vindication In CT Cops Killing Family Dog Case - NY Fed Appeals Court Says Hartford Police Were WRONG!
Lorie Kramer
In 2006, Hartford, CT city police shot and killed a dog after entering a residential backyard, without a warrant. The shooting of “Seven”, the Saint Bernard, took place in front of it’s 12-year-old owner. As the AP report states, “the girl needed hospitalization and antidepressants afterward.” Link to that report here
Glen Harris, who is listed as the minor’s guardian, filed the federal lawsuit in 2008. That suit came to trial in May of 2012. An article here from the time of the start of that trial includes more details about the event. Harris lost that jury trial, the verdict in favor of Hartford police and two of its officers.
Today, 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reversed that decision saying the police were wrong and entrance to the backyard was unjustified. A new trial has been ordered to assess damages.
Spread the word that we will not tolerate the continued unjustified invasion of private property, and the shooting of family dogs by over zealous so-called “peace” officers. So glad this court stood up and overturned the original bad decision.

AMEN!!!!! Thank-you for the update!!!
Yes, tracehdridefree! The other irritating part is that the 12 yr old girl is now 20. That’s 140 in dogs years. 8 yrs. That’s how long it took to acknowledge a grievous error with devastating consequences. This type of thing is way too prevelant these days. Heck, if Seven had lived out the normal dog’s life, the dog would likely be dead by now.
Thank goodness the appeal was a success. I hope the courts, in other similar cases, get it right the first time from ow on.
