House Votes to Overturn Last-Minute Abortion Funding Pushed By Obama

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

On Thursday, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to overturn a ruling which came in the last moments of the Obama administration.

The HHS regulation dealt with Title X funding, and required states to give money to Planned Parenthood, or other clinics which perform abortions. States were not allowed to refuse.

Life Site News reports:

The U.S. House of Representatives voted 230 to 188…to overturn former President Obama’s “eleventh hour” HHS rule forcing states to give Title X money to organizations that commit abortions.

Title X money comes from the government to fund “family planning services,” but technically not abortion.

Before he left office, Obama pushed through an HHS regulation that essentially forces states to give Planned Parenthood Title X funding.

But thanks to the Congressional Review Act, Congress may overturn such agency regulations within 60 legislative days. Only 51 Senate votes are needed now that it has passed the House.

Representative Diane Black from Tennessee is sponsoring H.J. Res 43. If the resolution passes the Senate, which it should, it will prove to be an excellent first step in the fight to keep taxpayer funds from paying for abortions. Ultimately, the obvious hope is that Planned Parenthood will be defunded.

The victory, though a small, incomplete one, is sure to be sending shock waves through the nation’s largest abortion provider. On February 14, Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood, emailed supporters ahead of the House vote.

…sent an email to supporters warning that if the House voted to overturn Obama’s HHS rule, it would be a “devastating attack” for them. It will “embolden extremist politicians to block” funding to “a health center just because that center also provides safe, legal abortion,” Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards wrote.

The abortion industry is incapable of understanding that their precious, life-ending sacrament isn’t going anywhere, at least for the time being. All we ask is that taxpayer funds be kept from supporting abortion directly, or supporting the clinics that perform them.

During the debate in the House, Democrats chose to throw a fit all under the guise of “women’s  health.” As we know, abortion is not healthcare. That never keeps spineless pro-aborts in D.C. from acting as if the opposite is true.

Rep. Dan Kildee, D-MI, complained, “Republicans are again focused on attacking women’s health.”

“The women of America are watching … the mothers and daughters, Mr. President, are watching,” said Rep. Ami Bera, D-CA.

“It is 2017 and a woman’s uterus is not a political football,” said Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-WA.

What’s astonishing is liberals requesting that we stay out of personal decisions all while asking us to fund them. No one is against responsible funding of health services for low-income and uninsured individuals through Title X grants. What we are against is using those grants to fund abortions, as Obama’s HHS rule was meant to do.

Hopefully, this is just one part of a puzzle which will ultimately spell defeat for Planned Parenthood.
