The 3 Different Types of Snoring

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Did you know there are different types of snorers?

We tend to generalize snorers in a single category, “The snorer makes a sound while asleep”.

However, there are three different types of snorers.

Understanding these different kinds of snorers is key in finding the effective solution to get rid of the snoring problem.

Mouth Snoring

Mouth based snoring is a common problem that occurs when you breathe from your mouth rather than your nose while asleep.

A common way to solve this problem is to check if you can snore with your mouth closed.

If not, you can use devices to keep your mouth closed while you sleep.

Tongue-based snoring is another kind of mouth snoring.

This occurs when tongue falls back and blocks airway to the throat.

Sleeping on the side is known to be an effective solution.

Nose Snoring

Nasal collapse or congestion is the major cause of nose snoring.

These conditions occur nostril collapses due to dry air, allergies or any other structural problem in the nose.

You need to consult a doctor and determining the major cause of snoring.

If it’s due to breathing in dry air, you can use a humidifier, likewise, nose dilators can be useful to help with congestion.

Throat Snoring

If your snoring doesn’t fall on either of the criteria, your snoring could be caused due to the vibration of the throat tissues.

This is due to the narrow pathway, as air strikes through the walls of the airway striking against the tissues.
