Full Interview with Reform Party Secretary Nicholas Hensley

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Briefly describe your background and how you became involved with the RP.

My name is Nicholas Hensley. I am the Secretary of the Reform Party National Committee, and Chairman of the Reform Party of North Carolina. I grew up in a sliver of county right smack dab between Raleigh and Wake Forest, North Carolina. I got involved in third party politics when I realized that the establishment was composed of two types of politicians. In the United States, we have tax and spend Democrats and spend and spend Republicans. In addition, the Democrats want to regulate your wallet as the Republicans want to regulate your bedroom. Understanding these two facts got me involved with the Reform Party.

What are your official positions in the RP and how do you expect to advance the RP in the coming years?

The Reform Party of the United States, as a national entity, wishes to make government more transparent. As a party, we wish to open the ballot to all parties and independents, open the Presidential debates to every candidate with enough ballot access to win the Presidential election, have public financing of all national elections and end gerrymandering so elected representation is beholden to the People and not the party they represent.

We wish to balance the federal budget through the use of a Balanced Budget Amendment, and putting together a financial blueprint to bring the United States back to fiscal solvency.

In order to improve the Reform Party’s standing, we need to recruit. A political machine is composed of voters, donors, activists and leaders – everyone contributing to the success of the machine in wherever they can. Recruiting people that only shows up on Election Day to vote, hand out fliers on the weekend or gives five dollars to a local candidate is just as important as recruiting full time party leaders. In fact most of the leaders stand on the success of small contributors, and having people at every level is essential for success. Recruiting these people is key for the Reform Party’s success.

As the Reform Party rebuilds, there is room for new leadership and activists. We are open to talking to anyone that wishes to get involved. We are showing great strength in Florida, where new leaders have stepped forward, and we hope to recruit new leadership to a number of states.

What are the key issues that bring RP members together?

The key issues that bring most Reform Party members together, and motivate our voting bloc, is the want for responsibility and honest leadership. Since the party’s founding in 1996, the membership of the Reform Party has been composed of members that have seen what hyper partisanship has done to this country. Party before People politics has thrown the United States into debt, corrupted our political system, and hampered the future of our nation. At the same time dirty politics has made the political climate toxic.. These are that bring the Party together, and issues the Reform Party can fix.

Who are the candidates in the RP that are standing out in the 2018 election?

The Reform Party has several candidates in the 2018 elections. Our most watched candidate is for Governor of Florida, Darcy Richardson. Darcy Richardson has decades of political experience. Darcy Richardson has held many party positions and waged several past political campaigns. Darcy Richardson ran the 1988 Euguene McCarthy Presidential Campaign, and was an advisor to McCarthy’s 1992 campaign. After becoming political outsider, Darcy Richardson supported Ross Perot in 1996, Ralph Nader in 2004 and Rocky de La Fuente in 2016. Darcy Richardson is the most experienced candidate we have run for office in recent history.

We have another viable candidate running for California Assembly in District 41. Political outsider Alan Reynolds served eight years as a city commissioner and has the necessary experience to serve the voters of his district. Due to California’s ballot access laws, Alan Reynolds will be the sole challenger of the incumbent. With only one establishment candidate in the race, he has a good chance at winning the election.

In North Carolina, the Reform Party of North Carolina has fielded four candidates for local office. Historically there has been a lack of candidates for county Soil and Water conservation boards. Every two years, voters vote for two candidates for the Soil and Water conservation boards. Sometimes there are enough candidates to fill both seats. For that reason, the Reform Party of North Carolina decided to put four candidates on the sidelines, so they could step in and challenge any uncontested Soil and Water Conservation Board Seats as write in candidates.

In Guilford County, North Carolina former Marine and veteran affairs activist Joe Vodenichar was chosen as the stand by.

In Franklin County, North Carolina the county chair, Richard Kasa is the stand by candidate.

In Wake County, North Carolina the standby candidate is long time Reform Party member Randall Rickman.

Make a pitch to encourage others to join the RP.

Right now in the United States, we stand strong in the face of adversity. For two hundred and forty two years, the United States has thrived in the face of difficult challenges. Right now our political challenges are an unpopular Congress, radical partisanship and a twenty one trillion dollar debt has created uncertainty about America’s fiscal future. The Reform Party was founded on the principles of bringing unity back the political climate and balancing the national budget. Supporting the Reform Party is the best chance at facing this issues.
