Rep. Omar Asks Allah to Break ‘Evil’ Israel’s Planetary Spell, Condemns Steve King’s ‘Hateful’ Words

Holy cats–

On CNN Thursday, Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar defended asking Allah to make citizens of earth see the evil of Israel’s efforts, and to recognize how the tiny country had “hypnotized” all of us.

Apparently, the world is — or was — under a spell.

She was asked about her tweet from 2012:

“Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel.”

Bold move from someone intent upon a congressional seat.

Then again, she still got elected.

Host Poppy Harlow popped the question:

“You wrote Israel has ‘hypnotized the world. I wonder what your message is this morning to Jewish-Americans who find that deeply offensive.”

Wanna read a perplexing answer? Here ya go:

“Oh — that’s really a regrettable way of expressing that. I don’t know how my comments would be offensive to Jewish-Americans. My comments precisely are addressing what was happening during the Gaza War. I am clearly speaking about the way that the Israeli regime was conducting itself in that war.”

Given that move, the next was especially confounding: She insisted that Republican Rep. Steve King should receive a congressional censure due to remarks to The New York Times that were rife with “racism and bigotry”:

“I think it’s really important in a moment — in a time in our nation’s history where racism and bigotry is rampant that we take a bold stance. I am one that is for restoration and one that believes in restorative measures. And I hope now that that wasn’t followed through with, that this serves as an opportunity for the congressman to make amends and move away from the hateful speech that he has partaken in.”

Steve’s comments were clumsy and confusing. Hateful? Judge for yourself here.

As for Ilhan, what the heck is going on? Is it just me, or have we seen a surge in newly elected Democrats saying crazy things lately (here and here)? Ah, maybe it’s just me.

The left-winger certainly isn’t alone in her no-love-for-Israel stance in Congress (here) and elsewhere, prominently (here, and here).

Also Thursday, the Times produced 27 different covers — one featuring Ilhan — to, in the words of Poppy, “recognize many of the new unique female voices now in the halls of Congress.”
