The Trump-Yang Voter Explained

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Allow me to explain this mindset:

1.) Disaffected Populists – The Alt-Right congealed in the George W. Bush era when disaffected populists and nationalists began to criticize conservatism on the grounds of its trade policy which was deindustrializing the country, its foreign policy which was bleeding the country dry in endless, inexplicable wars, its immigration policy which was changing the country’s demographics and its consistent defeats on social issues and taboo policing for the Left.

2.) The Ron Paul Revolution – The Ron Paul Revolution was the first attempt by these disaffected populists and nationalists to challenge mainstream conservatism in the 2008 and 2012 Republican primaries. Libertarianism soaked up a lot of that energy mainly through being “antiwar” while mainstream conservatism was pro-war.

3.) Donald Trump and MAGA – When Donald Trump came along and began to echo all of these familiar themes, the Alt-Right backed him in the Republican primaries. Once again, the goal was to challenge mainstream conservatism and the movement was elated when Trump won the presidency. It appeared at the time that a new national populist movement had triumphed. Everyone voted for Trump for highly idealistic reasons to turn the country around.

4.) The Trump Presidency – After two years in power, Donald Trump has failed to make any progress toward these goals, and even worse, he has embraced exactly the messaging and policies of mainstream conservatism that inspired all that resentment in the first place.

5.) Extreme Disillusionment – Now, extreme disillusionment has begun to set in with many of these populist and nationalist voters, especially those who have suffered the most from all the blowback against Trump in the form of violence and deplatforming from the Left.

6.) Andrew Yang Comes Along – The collapse of Trump has opened up a vacuum and it was only a matter of time before it was filled by another Ron Paul-style protest candidate. Everything stays exactly the same as it is now but with $1,000 a month is a winning message.

7.) Disaffected Populist Voters Again – In 2016, there were lots of populist voters whose first choice was Donald Trump, but their second choice was Bernie Sanders. They would have rather voted for Bernie Sanders than Jeb Bush or Marco Rubio.

Now that the Trump presidency has become the Jeb presidency, many are now asking the obvious question: if we are just going to get more of the same on the “MAGA agenda” issues, more of the same old 1980s conservatism, why not go with my second choice in 2020? Why not vote on the basis of issues like health care, student loans, bills, private tuition costs and so forth which have been consistently neglected for the sake of voting for idealistic notions of saving the country?

If the country is going to shit anyway and it is harder to pay the rent because I have been deplatformed, why not take the $1,000 a month and cash out? If conservatives have no room for White Nationalism in the Republican Party, why not go with Green Nationalism?
