Hunting is a game as old as time. Humans have been hunters for almost as long as they existed and many animals are as well. It’s in our nature. We have hunted animals of all sorts for ages before we could ever grow them for the purpose of eating them.

Many thought that because things are changing so quickly, the hunting will stop too. But it didn’t.

Over the years, there have been many new laws and regulations that hunters have to respect. Individually, some etiquette and ethics rules changed as well. Hunting is a sport and this is quite normal and usual, just like in any sport.

So, if you want to play it, here are some golden rules that you need to follow.

Treat the landowners with respect

Some landowners are more than happy to let anyone walk across their fields. However, some are not as chipper and welcoming. But, unless you really know the person, you can never know what they will say about you walking across their property on that particular day.

This is why it’s always good to ask first. If you are allowed in, then great but if not, just remain polite and find a different field.

If the owner lets you in, make sure that you leave everything as is since you don’t want to be rejected the next time or have the landlord hate hunters because you left litter and dead animals on their property.

You might even want to offer money or part of the game you get that day as a reward.

Have some basic hunting skills

In order to hunt properly, you need to have some basic hunting skills. The most important one is first aid. Hunts are full of guns, knives and unsafe places. Some of your companions or you could get hurt and then they would really need your help or you could need help. “It’s always a good idea to bring a first aid kit and learn how to use it properly in order to stop the bleeding or something similar,” says Felix Blossom, a nature blog editor at Essayroo and Boomessays.

Next, you need to learn proper navigation and use of compass and maps. This is something that you’ll definitely need in your hunting life because it’s easy to get lost – even in the seemingly familiar terrains.

Give the animal a fair chance

This is another great hunting rule. Give your prey a fair chance to escape. If you are good enough, you will get it. If not, don’t employ cheap tricks in order to get it. A good game is all about respect – for yourself, landlords, team mates and animals you hunt. Try to kill them as ethically as possible. If you just wound them, follow the animal until you find it.

Respect the law

Laws, rules and regulations are there for a good reason. You have no right to break them. Behave and respect the law. “Also, make sure that you respect animal preservation so that the future generations can hunt and enjoy the game as well,” says Tyson Wills, a hunting writer at Dissertation Service and BigAssignments.

Know how to handle a gun

If you don’t know how to handle a gun, don’t hunt. It’s a simple rule, yet the one that can save many lives. Practice beforehand, not on animals or people by accident.

Hunters have been developing their own ethics for ages. People always find a way to make a game as human and as decent as possible. So, now hunters have to ask before they step onto someone’s property, they have to respect other hunters and animals that they hunt. This isn’t always easy when the mood strikes and the energy levels are high. However, you have to remind yourself to be respectful and to treat everyone involved in the game with respect that you would like to receive. Always be kind to young hunters and share your tips and tricks – they are of no use if they are not given to someone young and new. Hopefully, you’ll respect these rules and have a great hunt.
