Oil prices extend gains after OPEC+ talks failure

Tehran blames Israel for ‘sabotage’ at nuclear facility in June

Iranian government spokesperson Ali Rabiei accused Israel of carrying out ‘sabotage’ at a nuclear facility near Tehran in June, at a press conference from the Iranian capital on Tuesday.

Rabiei said that the attack did not cause ‘human damage’ or significant damage to equipment, explaining that the roof of the facility was ‘removed for repairs,’ after satellite images circulated online showing its removal.

“We anticipate this damage and these plans are done by this country (Israel). It strongly opposed any understanding of Iran with the international community, and strongly opposes any friendship between Iran and the region,” said Rabiei.

Rabiei also noted that decisions on the negotiations around the revival of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), would be taken by the country’s Supreme National Security Council in coordination with Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

“According to the Supreme Leader, if the views of the Supreme National Security Council and the main policy of the Supreme Leader are met today, we will not wait even an hour or a moment,” said Rabiei.

The JCPOA accord was reached in July 2015, with Iran agreeing to dismantle much of its nuclear programme and open its facilities for international inspections, in exchange for sanctions relief.

In 2018, former US President Donald Trump withdrew from the deal, with Iran resuming nuclear activities as a result.
