PRESS RELEASE

Adam Garcia to join the Great Gorilla Run 2012

Hollywood and Sky TV star Adam Garcia will be one of hundreds of great ape fans taking part in the annual Great Gorilla Run in London on Saturday 22 September.

Garcia (Coyote Ugly, Got to Dance, Doctor Who) has signed up to tackle a 7km course past London landmarks such as Tower Bridge, the Tate Modern and City Hall, dressed in a full gorilla suit.

He will be joined by hundreds of other runners taking part in this iconic event, which will once again be started by TV legend and conservationist Bill Oddie, and is still recruiting new runners for his own team.

“The Great Gorilla Run is one of those fantastic events; everyone in gorilla costumes running past the monuments of London to raise money for a great cause,” says Garcia.

“Imagining a world without gorillas is a crying shame. Any extinction is tragic and the gorilla is such a magnificent, gentle creature that losing them, for really no reason, would be a tragedy. So that’s why I’ve agreed to take part in this iconic event, and that’s why you should join me!”

Since the first Great Gorilla Run, which took place in 2001, the event has raised more than £1.5 million for gorilla conservation projects in Rwanda, Uganda and DR Congo. Each year, the highest fundraiser is rewarded with a once-in-a-lifetime trip to see mountain gorillas in the wild in Uganda.

Today the organisation works to ensure the survival of lowland gorillas as well as mountain gorillas with projects including gorilla protection; agricultural development; the Durban Process (long-term solution to illegal mining); conservation and education; forest people and combating loss of habitat.
