An event to celebrate the world’s most consumed and most influential medium – Music Radio

The International Radio Festival (IRF) is the world’s first industry conference and public event to celebrate the world’s most consumed and most influential medium, Music Radio. Taking place in Zurich from 12th to 16th September, the event’s third edition offers the music radio industry a unique platform to network, share knowledge, exchange formats, and explore audience preferences, whilst engaging with both a qualitative music business audience and a quantitative consumer audience at the same time, amounting to a reach of billions of listeners worldwide.

Since being founded in 2010, the IRF has brought together more than 100 ground-breaking music radio shows from around the world, enabling their makers the unique opportunity to showcase their best music radio programmes in the presence of their peers and industry professionals, as well as “live On-Air” to the general public visiting the Festival, to their listeners back home, and online around the world, offering those tuned-in the rare opportunity to “Listen to how the World Sounds”.

This year the IRF are pleased to announce an exciting partnership with Greater Media, Inc, which will see the event simulcast across three major Greater Media US markets; Boston, Detroit and Philadelphia. The festival will be heard on 96.9-HD2 in Boston, 105.1-HD2 in Detroit, and 93.3-HD2 in Philadelphia reaching an even bigger global audience in only its third year.

The festival will feature three studios in Zurich: the famous Schloss Sihlberg Villa for the day programs; the official IRF hotel Four Points Sihlcity Sheraton for the morning breakfast show and the Cabaret Club for the evening, featuring club music formats. Thirty invited contemporary music radio programs and DJs will gather in Zurich from around the world, including India, Brazil, China, USA, UK, Germany, France and many other countries, to broadcast their music radio showcases.

In addition to the many talented invited radio DJs, the IRF will welcome industry giants to DJ, including 20th Century Fox Music President, Robert Kraft, who will spin a 2-hour movie music show “Screen Tracks”; Claude Nobs, with hits from the Montreux Jazz Festival; and the legendary Tony Prince of Radio Caroline fame. Past presenters and radio stations who have taken part include; Gilles Petersen, Stretch Armstrong and East Village Radio, Jeremy Sole and KCRW, Ghetto Radio Nairobi, Wild FM San Fran.

The festival also features an exclusive B2B Forum, which has rapidly established itself as the think-tank and exchange hub for both the key players in music radio and music related industries. Set within the magnificent Schloss Sihlberg commanding spectacular views across the city of Zurich the forum enables attendees to develop closer business and cultural relationships within this specialised industry.

From 20th July to 12 August 2012 the IRF presented a special Olympic Pop Up Radio station in London. The studio was housed inside a funky Swiss Postal Bus, which was driven from Zurich to London. Broadcasting live 24/7 on DAB across London and online the station aired contemporary Swiss and British urban sounds with host of bands, celebrities and athletes whilst keeping listeners posted on the Olympic highlights.
