Composer Kim Planert Receives Hollywood Music in Media Award Nomination for Indie 'A Reason'

Kim Planert, an award-winning film and television composer, has been nominated for a Hollywood Music in Media Award for “Best Score: Indie Film (A Reason).  Planert took home the award last year alongside Robert Duncan for their score to ABC’s Missing.

A Reason is an indie feature directed by Dominique Schilling that tells the story of a family gathering that forces terminally ill Aunt Irene to rethink her views on family, love, and forgiveness. The film stars Golden Globe nominee Marion Ross, Magda Apanowicz, Nick Eversman, Roxanne Hart & Ron Melendez.  

The Hollywood Music in Media awards ceremony will take place at The Fonda Theatre November 21, 2013 in Hollywood. The annual event recognizes and honors the music of visual mediums such as film, TV, video games, and music videos; the talented artists involved in those areas; as well as mainstream and independently-produced music from around the world. Past attendees include Smokey Robinson, John Debney, Artie Kornfeld and Eric Roberts.

“I am extremely honored to have received this nomination,” Planert said. “I am very proud of this film and think it has a great message. It reminds us of what really matters in life and to not waste the little time we have.”

While discussing the film’s score director Dominique Schilling remarks “Kim Planert has an incredible ability to translate the images on screen into a musical language, truly capturing the emotions of every scene and the message of this film. His understanding of me as a story teller and his sensitivity to the actor’s performances, camera movements, finding “moments” within the scenes as well as his prolific approach to film scoring, made my collaboration with him an amazing experience.”

Planert experimented with time manipulating techniques such as time freezing. The end result being unique soundscapes that capture the essence of the film. Also contributing to the score with her vocals was award winning singer, Lisbeth Scott who has performed on such films as Avatar, Munich and Transformers.

Planert’s other film and television credits include: ABC’s Missing, Lucky You Film’s The Last Passport, and additional music alongside Robert Duncan on CBS’ The Unit, Fox’s Lie to Me, ABC’s The Gates, Fox’s The Chicago Code, ABC’s Last Resort, Disney’s Girl Vs. Monster and ABC’s Castle.
