Future College and Professional Sports Team Scouts Could Benefit from Use of Project Management Training Online

Scouts who are looking for potential talent for a specific college or professional team have hundreds, if not thousands, of individuals they look at in a given year. This can sometimes prove to be overwhelming to many individuals, which is why the sports industry is looking for new recruitment help.

“We are looking into a way to utilize some of these computer programs to help our scouts”, explained a technology developer for the sports industry. “We believe that if we require every recruiter to take part in project management training online, it could help reduce their stress.”

Project management training online is typically used by upper level managers who have to overlook and run multiple projects. The course focuses on showing individuals how to use computer programs to store, sort, and find information.

“What we think these courses could do is really help our scouts”, explained a representative for the professional team union of scouts. “Many scouts use a paper filing system. That can prove overwhelming and tiring. We think that if they use computer programs it could really help them reduce their stress.”

The first meeting amongst scouts was held a few months ago. Approximately 20 scouts attended the project management training online session. They were introduced to the software and the class focused on how it could be used to help scout new talent.

“I think it was important to create a specific course that focused on sports scouting”, explained the technology developer. “It really showed the scouts what they can do and what they can’t do with the computer technology that they have available. It really proved helpful.”

While using the technology may help people, it has raised some concerns with professional and college teams. The technology developers have addressed this concern by creating specific sports software that scouts can use.

“This use of specific software puts all scouts on an even playing field”, said the technology developer. “It wouldn’t be fair to teams that do not have access to expensive software, as those teams that did have access to it would be better off. That is why the leagues and teams are requiring all scouts to use the same software as there would be no advantage over anyone else. I think it is fair.”

Scouts have started to use this technology, but it will be widely used starting next year.
