In a rare display of political and ideological infighting at the Vatican, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Vatican Secretary of State, was forced to deny rumors that the Vatican had prepared a contingency plan for potential ‘apocalyptic’ events around the day of November 11, 2011.
The controversy began when the prominent Italian journalist, Antonio Socci, accused the the Vatican’s chief exorcist, Father Gabriele Amorth, of having come under the influence of the polemical, apocalyptic novel, Cactus Land. Socci showed pictures of Father Amorth with the book and claimed he was attempting to convince high level Vatican officials, including the Pope himself, of impending doom.
The highly controversial cult classic, written in 2004 and published in 2009, has so far predicted the Arab spring and the NATO air strikes on Libya. Some have also speculated that a live depiction of a murder/suicide in the novel was a premonition surrounding the filmed death of Qaddafi. As many know, the dystopian novel ends with a nuclear exchange and a final, extremely polemical “divine message”. link). The author, Robert Bonomo, stated “I don’t want to make money from this book, I just want people to read it. I believe there is an important, urgent warning for world in this novel.”
Only complicating matters, the “Black Pope”, Adolfo Niclolas, head of the Jesuits, made this statement at an informal talk to journalists in Tokyo about the Third Secret of Fatima, “They have hidden something, I do not believe the whole message of the Virgin was revealed, not from Fatima or Akita, furthermore, the strange final message from the novel Cactus Land makes it clear that some key element is continuing to be hidden.” Father Nicolas was later forced retract the statement and said for the record, “The Holy See is hiding nothing, period.”
The controversial connection between the novel and November 11, 2011 comes from the occurrence in the story of a lottery number, ‘1111’, which is immediately followed by geo-political chaos. In one final bizarre twist, the 2010 Noble Prize winner in physics, the Russian Konstantin Novoselov said the following regarding November 11, 2011 at an academic conference in Rome sponsored by the Vatican . “Well, there were two 9/11’s, Chile in 1973 and New York in 2001. Then, 911 days after, on 3/11/2004 the Madrid bombings occur, followed by the events of Fukushima, again on 3/11/2011. The logical numerical sequence points to an obvious conclusion of the equation on November 11, 2011”
