Sunday, Sunday! Denialist -v- Subserviant - Main event!

The article I just read opens with “All denialists see themselves as underdogs fighting a corrupt elite.”

Cool, I thought, another label for dissenters and self-thinking folks.

“Denialists.” Not bad… but it does seem a little derogatory, I wonder what the “opposite” people are called, probably something nice like “Subserviants.”

Anyway… the article goes ahead and explains that everyone who does not believe the experts in any field without question… are basically mentally ill.”

It goes to great lengths to cast aspersion on anyone and everyone who does not arbitrarily fall in line with authority and immediately comply to any and all directives given.

Patiently it explains that “Denialists” are not necessarily unintelligent but are more apt to go with their gut than with the absolutely impregnable, unassailable edicts of authority, especially if recommended by some branch of science.

How’s that working for you by the way?

Now I have written my fair share about elitists and their sinister designs, but I do not think I have ever railed and frothed at the mouth as much as this person representing the bastion of the elite. They get quite wild-eyed about us “Denialists.”

Balance and equilibrium is good, it is one of the immutable universal laws, so having both “Denialists” and “Subservients” probably serves the need. Neither are ever correct of course, but that is not as important as having diversification, which I think science says is the engine of evolution.

So, I for one don’t aim to be driven out of my “Denialist” corner by some pencil necked anally retentive simpering wimp “Subservient.”

That was not called for I know… but it felt OK. But I do appologize if YOU happen to be a Subservient.

Living in denial: Why sensible people reject the truth

This depressing tale is the latest incarnation of denialism, the systematic rejection of a body of science in favour of make-believe. There’s a lot of it about, attacking evolution, global warming, tobacco research, HIV, vaccines – and now, it seems, flu. But why does it happen? What motivates people to retreat from the real world into denial?

Here’s a hypothesis: denial is largely a product of the way normal people think. Most denialists are simply ordinary people doing what they believe is right. If this seems discouraging, take heart. There are good reasons for thinking that denialism can be tackled by condemning it a little less and understanding it a little more.

Ok, lets start with the wisdom of prescribing drilling into a highly pressurized oil and gas chamber five miles down in the ocean? Then how about the DDT they rubbed into my scalp everyday before I could get into school, or the thalidomide my aunt took in good faith… or asbestos, or How about the people who bought into Love Canal with all those assurances… Gosh, I will stop now, the Internet does not have near enough empty space for me to carry on… questioning authority is a MUST, not a maybe.

Oh… Did I mention… Oct 1, 2008 – In 1999 the Institute of Medicine released a report stating that more than 7000 deaths result each year from medication errors. Sometimes questioning can be a “lifesaver.” I even read somewhere that more people die of the cure than the disease. If questioning makes me insane…

Let’s make a deal.

You… good and faithful “Subservient”… make your personal choices and how about I make mine?

See… “Denialists” have class at least and we make room for everyone.

They finish on a softer note…

He believes the instigators of denialist movements have more serious psychological problems than most of their followers. “They display all the features of paranoid personality disorder”, he says, including anger, intolerance of criticism, and what psychiatrists call a grandiose sense of their own importance.

“Ultimately, their denialism is a mental health problem.

That is why these movements all have the same features, especially the underlying conspiracy theory.”

This artticle is bound to have won over all the science cynics out there, it warmed the cockles of my “denialist” heart, if there was something to join, like a youth corps, I probably would have jumped at it. Do they have a neat flag or symbol I wonder… do their boots sound great on cobblestones?…

“Intolerance of criticism,” Hmmm… that one is interesting, it must be an exclusive trait of “Denialists.”
