This reminds me of the false positive test that we were given in school for proving that the earth is a globe. Watch a ship heading out to the horizon and notice how it drops the farther away it gets. We know from science, of course, that this is not proof of a bending landscape but an optical illusion caused by light. The same optical illusion Gene experienced at the top of the mountain.
