Prosperity Preacher Benny Hinn Begs Followers for $2.5M

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Despite pulling in hundreds of millions with his false teachings, Hinn is in debt.

Prosperity Gospel, Word of Faith heretic Benny Hinn of the Trinity Broadcast Network, who has made hundreds of millions of dollars over the years spreading his false gospel, is now pleading with his followers to send him $2.5M over a 90-day period in order to rescue his ministry from debt. In return for giving him money, Hinn promises his followers a “double return on investment” for every dollar they spend. This is yet another example of the shameless scams and manipulation by false teachers in the Christian church who use the love of money to lure unwitting believers into trying to use money to “buy favor and blessings” from God. Not only is this teaching not in the Bible, it goes against the true Gospel and is in fact a part of the apostasy – the end times falling away of much of the Christian church away from biblical Christianity and into false doctrine and satanic worship.

Hinn’s Plea
Here is an excerpt from Hinn’s request, which was emailed to his millions of followers worldwide, as stated on his ministry website:

“Let me quickly explain about this historic miracle: A long-time and beloved friend of mine and of this ministry shared something with me this week that literally touched me to the core!
“Benny,” he said, “God wants your ministry to be completely out of debt, and I want to plant an anointed seed that will help you take a giant step toward becoming totally debt-free!”
Now this is a very precious man of God whom I have known and loved more than three decades. He has been such a blessing to the cause of Christ. So when he said this, needless to say, I was thrilled beyond words at his unbelievable generosity and the remarkable timeliness of his offer.
You see, even as God has given us a new beginning, we have faced incredible challenges as a ministry as a result of things that happened in the past few years. At the same time our broken home was attracting attention from worldwide news services, the economies of so many of the countries where our partners live have been hit mercilessly. As a result, some of our partners decided to suspend giving or to simply walk away.
And while we have seen God beginning to restore so much, one of the last pieces of the puzzle has been our finances. So you can only imagine how it nearly took my breath away when he told me how much…
But then there was something more this man of God added:
Benny, God has laid it on my heart to plant a seed of $2.5 million into your ministry, but God only wants me to make this gift if the ministry partners match the amount within 90 days! I feel so strongly that He wants them to be part of the supernatural wealth transfer that is coming to every believer who will obey God’s Word.
What could I say? Immediately I saw the hand of God in this. Our Lord could have simply used our friend to plant the seed and be blessed immeasurably by it. But it was so evident that God wants to provide an even greater miracle than the $2.5 million. He desires for our partners and ministry friends to be blessed as they join together with this precious man of God by planting a much larger seed into the work of the Lord, and, in so doing, doubling the blessings.
I quickly told him, “I cannot say no. When I share with my partners what God is doing, they will jump at the chance to be part of this amazing opportunity. I just know it!” (source).

Hinn is a preacher of the Prosperity Gospel (also known as Word of Faith), a false teaching that Christians can receive massive amounts of wealth, physical healing from illness, beauty, fame, miracles and financial prosperity by “sowing a seed” or sending money to Hinn’s ministry. The giving of money to Hinn, serves as the “seed” which God then uses to repay the giver with much greater supernatural blessing. So the person is in effect buying a miracle. None of this teaching is in the Bible. At no point in the Bible did anyone ever pay God or any prophet of God money to receive a blessing. The Lord Jesus Christ healed thousands of people during His ministry on earth and never once requested money or a “seed” from any person. Here is an example of a healing by Jesus Christ:

While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live. And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples. And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment:For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.– Matthew 9:18-22.

Notice the woman with the bleeding disorder did not try to give money or any of her possessions in order to be healed by Jesus. It was her faith in Him that led her to want to just touch the fabric of Jesus’ garment. She believed Jesus was truly the Son of God, and as God incarnate, possessed the power to heal her. Faith is the basis of Christianity. Jesus’ message was belief in Him for the forgiveness of sins, in order to escape the judgment of God that we rightly deserve and have eternal life in Heaven. It takes faith in order to become a born-again Christian, not a payment. The miracles Jesus performed while on Earth were to serve as proof that He was indeed the prophesied Messiah who the Old Testament predicted would come to Earth to save humanity. But even in healing the sick, Jesus used these moments to again teach that it is faith in Him and His work that saves a person, not our “obedience” or any action of our own.

And when Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise, He said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn. But when the people were put forth, he went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose. And the fame hereof went abroad into all that land. – Matthew 9:23-26.

Here Jesus resurrected the daughter of the ruler who approached Him in the beginning of the passage above. Again we see a demonstration of faith. The ruler made it plain to Jesus that even though his daughter was dead, he still believed that Jesus could bring her back to life. What a great testament to this ruler’s faith! Clearly he did not believe that Jesus was a normal man or a “wise teacher” or a “great philosopher.” He believed that Jesus had the power of God, to control life itself. Hebrews 11 says: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”  Faith does not lie in our actions. It lies in our heart. When a person puts their faith in Jesus Christ, they are acknowledging that there is nothing they can do to address their problem and only Jesus has the answer. In this instance, this man’s daughter was dead. There was nothing the ruler could do to change that. And so he put all of his hope and trust in Jesus Christ to bring her back.

This is a picture of salvation, beloved reader. All people are born “spiritually dead.” We have a sin nature in our flesh, inherited from Adam, the first man and we commit sins on a daily basis. Because of this we have earned God’s wrath and right judgment against us and are destined for hell. There is nothing we can do to change this on our own. No good behavior, action, good manners or work can get us to Heaven. It is only when we acknowledge our sin before God and believe in the sacrifice Jesus Christ made on the cross to atone for it, that we can receive forgiveness.
Faith leading to blessings from Jesus is demonstrated again in the third miracle in this passage:

And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou son of David, have mercy on us. And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord. Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you. And their eyes were opened…  — Matthew 9:27-30.

The two blind men referred to Jesus as “thou son of David.” This was very significant. In the Old Testament, King David was told by God that the prophesied Messiah would come from his lineage. So by calling Jesus the “son of David” these two men demonstrated their belief that Jesus was in fact the fulfillment of this Biblical prophecy. They understood God’s Word and believed it. This is faith. And Jesus told them “according to your faith” they received their sight. There was no action done by these men and they certainly did not give money to be blessed. It was simple faith.

Enter The Wolves In Sheep Clothing

Beware of false teachings that put all the emphasis on material gain and not Jesus Christ.

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. – Matthew 7:15-20.

Jesus Christ warned the Church about “wolves in sheep clothing” – people who would appear to be solid, Christian teachers and preachers, but were in fact agents of Satan, spreading false teachings and perverting the Gospel for their own gain. The Apostle Peter wrote about them as well warning the church that money would be a key sign of their false teachings:

But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not. – 2 Peter 2:1-3.

Hinn’s teachings fit the Apostle’s warning to a tee. Rather than put the focus on Jesus Christ and going to Heaven, Hinn denies Christ by making his message all about the viewer and their financial success. And Hinn bases his entire teaching on covetousessness, provoking his audience to put their focus on money and having more material wealth. All the blessings of God are tired to physical and material prosperity. And by making people want more money and to live a great life today, Hinn can “make merchandise” of his followers by making them send him their hard earned money.
In his $2.5M dollar plea, he uses this exact tactic by promising a large financial blessing to anyone who gives:

This Incredible Season of Miracles Begins Now
That’s why I am now coming to you through this urgent and time-dated letter. We have an astonishing opportunity to release an amazing $5 million harvest into this ministry by matching an incredible $2.5 million gift in the next 90 days, or the opportunity will pass. We cannot let that happen. Not now. Not during this incredible season!
My dear friend who is planting this seed has lived the principle of giving unselfishly to the Gospel throughout his life and ministry, and he has been fabulously successful. I believe, with him, that this is a unique moment in time—an awesome season of debt cancellation—as the wealth transfer takes place to God’s people around the world.
God’s Word proclaims that His grace is “sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). Because of God’s grace, He wants to restore your home, your favor, your protection, your fellowship with Him, and so much more. And I truly believe that as you take part in this great challenge as we match this $2.5 million gift together, you will see a miraculous breakthrough in breaking the bondages of debt during the next 90 days.

Your Double Harvest Miracle
Are you ready for God to do the “impossible” in your life!
Are you ready to see your harvest doubled?
Are you ready to see your debt cancelled in the next 90 days?
Imagine not dreading going to the mailbox, no bills piling up on your counter, and no calls from collectors coming to your home. God wants to wipe your debt out! Every bit of it…and in the next 90 days!
This is an appointed hour. Imagine: Your $100 gift immediately doubles to $200. Your $500 seed literally becomes $1,000. If God leads you to plant $10,000, it instantly grows into a $20,000 seed! And your double seed, sown bountifully, will reap bountifully through the supernatural law of multiplication!
Only God could provide something like this—a double harvest for you. And the more you plant, the more you will reap!
The anointing for biblical abundance is being released. As you step into this miracle by faith, it will be poured out upon you, too! Your giving is literally the weapon that breaks the bondage of debt in this ministry and in your home during the next 90 days.
Plant your seed-gift now, then begin confessing over every bill, every debt, and every area of financial struggle in your life:
“With God I’m coming out of debt in 90 days!!!”
These repeated confessions will be constant reminders of the financial breakthrough that is coming to you. (source).

As if he is narrating an infomercial, Hinn makes bold promises of a “double harvest” and asks “are you ready to see your debt cancelled in the next 90 days?” The idea that giving him money will lead to automatic debt cancellation and a “double harvest” of money is a satanic deception. Notice Hinn uses no Biblical scripture to explain why one would receive a “double harvest.” It’s just based on the fact that his “anonymous donor” said he would match any offerings. He also gives no biblical reason for why someone’s debt would be cancelled  in 90 days. This is how a false preacher operates – using unbiblical principles and acting as if it is the Word of God.
In fact, the one part of his begging where Hinn actually quotes the Bible is a passage where the Apostle Paul prayed for healing and did not receive it:

For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. – 2 Corinthians 12:8-10.

Paul suffered from what he called a “thorn in the flesh” and prayed for The Lord to remove it. But Jesus responded by saying “my grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” What this means is that the grace of God – which was the undeserved, unearned free forgiveness of sin and eternal life Paul received through faith in Jesus Christ, was “sufficient” for him at that moment. Hinn misuses this passage to make it say the exact opposite of its actual Biblical meaning. Christians have no promises of earthly success, big money earnings or living a fabulous life on earth. Material gain and success has nothing to do with the blessing of salvation in Jesus Christ.

The blessings of a born again Christian are in eternal life, in Heaven and in the coming kingdom of Jesus Christ. That is where a Christian will have their prosperity. And in recognizing this, a Christian allows the strength of Christ to shine in their lives. Why? Because it is a demonstration of faith. The promises of God and the Holy Spirit in a born again Christian assures them that no matter what they face in the world today, they are eternally secure thanks to their belief in Jesus Christ. And thus when a Christian faces challenges and struggles, it gives an opportunity for them to glorify God by continuing to trust in The Lord as they endure it. This is why Paul said they he “takes pleasure in infirmities.” Rather than “commanding healing” from God, he is happy to suffer sickness or persecution for the name of Jesus Christ.

Wildly Unbiblical Teachings
The video below is a sample of how far from the Bible Hinn’s teachings are:

  • At the 1:45 mark Hinn claims that Adam, the first man, was a “superman” who had the ability to fly, including traveling to space. This is not in Scripture.
  • He says Christians are “little gods.”
  • In response to those who criticize him, he says he wishes he could find a verse in the Bible that commands him to “kill them.” He then goes on to say he wants God to give him “a Holy Ghost machine gun” to shoot anyone who would challenge him. What would make a true Pastor of God say such a thing? Much less be willing to announce it on television?
  • Hinn says the viewer will have “no financial trouble” if they “obey Ecclesiastes 11″. Notice that he is preaching the law and obedience. This is telling people that it is their work that “earns” their blessings from God. This is the exact opposite of the Gospel message which is clearly built on faith. But Hinn is willing to abuse the Scriptures to lure people into getting their financial gain as he exclaims “No evil will touch your financial life ever!”
  • At the 8:00 mark Hinn says: “When we sow seed we literally bring protection to our finances in the future. Even if your husband doesn’t like it, sow a seed.” There is absolutely no Scripture to support this.
  • “A financial miracle demands a financial act.” More preaching of actions, works and earning things from God, who is our big ATM in the sky.
  • He exerts emotional pressure on the audience with statements like: “If you want to secure your future, there is only one thing to do.” And that one thing is giving money to him.
  • Hinn in these videos seems to be endlessly shilling for money. All his focus is on material gain. Nothing about sin, God’s judgment, repentance or faith in Jesus Christ. The video is another example as Hinn gets his audience to come start handing him checks and cash right on stage:

Here is a clip of Suzanne Hinn, Benny’s wife, preaching. In it, she not only cites no scripture, but engages in horrible blasphemy and foul imagery from the pulpit.

What spirit is leading this woman? What spirit is inspiring her words? A spirit of God? Beloved, this is directly from demonic spirits.

In this clip from an expose by NBC Dateline we see the “fruit” of Hinn’s ministry. The show exposed Hinn as living the life of a multi-millionaire celebrity, jet-setting all over the world, eating at the best restaurants, attending the best spas and resorts and staying at hotels in suites that cost as much as $3,000 per night.

2 Peter chapter 2 sums up the greed and sinful lust that drives false teachers:

But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption; And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you; Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children: – 2 Peter 2:12-14.

Peter compares these false prophets to “brute beasts” – operating purely out of their own desire and greed. Notice the scripture describes them as “sporting themselves with their own deceiving while they feast with you.” Hinn shamelessly lives the life of a Hollywood superstar, traveling in his private jet, living in his luxury mansion and spending ridiculous amounts of money on his fine dining and lifestyle.

Hinn, pictured here at a hotel in Rome with Prosperity Gospel Preacher Paula White, said she was only a “friend.”

Hinn, who is married, was also romantically linked to prosperity Gospel preacher Paula White. Scripture says that these false prophets are so far gone in their rebellion against God that they “cannot cease from sin” and continue to deceive their victims for material gain.

Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man’s voice forbad the madness of the prophet. These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever. For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error. While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. – 2 Peter 2:15-19.

Balaam was an old testament prophet who was offered money to curse the children of Israel. He considered carrying out this mission until he was supernaturally rebuked by God. False teachers are making the same mistake – willing to defy God and harm believers for money. And Peter accurately points out that Hinn and others lure people trough “the lusts of the flesh.” This is the foundation of the prosperity Gospel and the reason so many people who are Christians or think they are Christians when in fact they are not, have fallen into sinful error. Do not be deceived.

Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple. – Romans 16:17-18.

Pray for Hinn’s ministry to end this corruption of Scripture and for them to fail in fleecing thousands of people all over the world. Not only are they taking money by manipulation, they are falsely leading people to believe they are following God when they are in fact following a deception. There are many souls at stake. Genuine, Bible-believing Christians are not to only pray for men like Hinn to repent. We are commanded by Scripture to expose them and warn others about their heresy. And pray for the true Gospel, based on faith in Jesus Christ to shine in the hearts of the victims of Hinn and other prosperity Gospel preachers, that they may truly believe in God’s work, not their own and know they can be forgiven of their sins, receive eternal life and have endless prosperity in Heaven. And it does not cost them a thing. Jesus paid it all.
