Store And Discover Gorgeous Online Photo Collections In One Place With Pelfind

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Every day hundreds of sites put together amazing collections of images: photography, typography, graphic design and more. Pelfind is a cool new site which makes it easy to find all of these posts on one convenient page. You can use Pelfind simply as an online visual magazine of sorts without having to sign up at all. Simply go to the homepage and browse the latest finds, or search for a specific topic or keyword. The front page, a Pinterest-like grid, is filled with all sorts of interesting finds, with everything from unique postcard designs to creative portraits of Steve Jobs.

Open up any given collection to view all of the images in a similar grid. Pelfind also provides the embed code for each collection, so you can easily share the entire collection on your website with just a couple of clicks of the mouse.

You can also tweet or like entire collections in one go. The final album related feature can be found by scrolling down to the end of the collection, where you’ll be met with a bunch of related collections that might be of interest to you, although in some cases the relevance algorithm could use some work.

Unfortunately, there’s no way to open up or share individual photos – with the site focusing entirely on the idea of the collection. You can however access the source .jpg link for each image.

If you decide to sign up for a free account, you have the added benefit of importing and saving photo collections to the site. So not only does it become a great way to discover interesting images, it also becomes a convenient way to save all those great collections in one easy-to-access place.

By saving collections you find around the web, Pelfind can become an inspiration board of sorts for you, keeping track of all the great posts you stumble across on the web. While Pinterest can certainly serve a similar function, what makes Pelfind much easier to use is the fact that you can save entire collections, regardless of the number of photos in one go. In that sense, Pelfind is almost like an automated Pinterest board creator – provided the images you’re looking for already exist on one page on the Web.

The process of adding an album to your collection couldn’t be easier. Hit the ‘Fetch Album’ link at the top of the page, and paste in the link of the album that you’ve found online. It can take a while, but Pelfind will import the all of the images and automatically provide the image source links for each photo as well. All you have to do is give the collection a name, and add it to your albums. You can also add existing collections that have already been added to Pelfinds by other users to your own albums.

Our Verdict

We love the idea behind Pelfind. It’s a simple solution to a problem you probably never knew you had. But once you start using the site, it becomes an invaluable tool for bookmarking great photography and more from around the web.

Pelfind does stumble across a similar issue that has plagued image curation sites like the very popular Pinterest – and that is one of copyright. While many of these sites putting together collections of photos link back to the original source and go to great pains to credit the original artist, Pelfind’s set up is slightly less than desirable from the artist’s point of view. Rather than the image source link going to a plain .jpg link on the Internet, it would be better if Pelfind was able to link to the original post, which contains any relevant credits.

Other than that, Pelfind is a solid little site which sets out to do one thing and it does it really well.
