Aorus Announces X7: 0.9-Inch Thin SLI Gaming Laptop

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Gaming laptops have a habit of being big, bulky, heat spewing machines. Oh, they also suffer from terrible battery life. When you’re packing the type of power these beasts are though, the aforementioned cons aren’t so surprising. That said, we’d be ecstatic to see a hardware manufacturer produce a (legitimately) thin gaming laptop that’s both thin and still powerful.

At CES 2014, gaming company Aorus might just have the answer with the X7. This 0.9-inch gaming laptop might sound like a lightweight (6.39 lbs.) on paper, but under the hood it’s a beast.

The X7 is powered by Intel 4th gen Core i7 Haswell processors (2.4 GHz-3.4GHz) and backed up with 4-32 GB of RAM. Storage options are highly configurable and is ready for triple storage arrangements with a single/dual SSD setup (128GB/256GB) as well as a potential 3rd drive in HDD form with sizes ranging from 500 GB to 1 TB. The display is your typical 1920 x 1080 17.3-inch variant and there’s a slew of ports (3x USB 3.0, 2x USB 2.0, HDMI, D-sub, RJ45, Surround port, mini-Display port, SD card reader, microphone-in, earphone-out(SPDIF)) and likewise, a large amount of wireless support in the form of 802.11ac (and everything prior) and Bluetooth 4.0.

For pixel junkies, the X7′s 1080p panel features 8ms response time and produces 72% of the NTSC color gamut. Onboard audio is pumped out by a 7 speaker system that includes 2 subwoofers.

But the real star of the show is the graphics powering the X7, specifically, the SLI’d GTX 765Ms. Aorus claims the X7 is good for a 3DMark 11 score of P7393 – nothing to sneeze at.

All of the power keeping the whole shebang going is provided by a 73.26 Wh battery.

For all intents and purposes, this laptop is indeed thin and relatively light for a gaming laptop while also possessing quite a bit of power. Now all we need are a more concrete release date and pricing info.

Update: It’s looking like ~$2,000 USD will be the starting point. Speed + thinness isn’t cheap.
