Google Maps Now Shows Indoor Areas For 75 Buildings In India

Google Inc. has added Indoor Details for 75 Buildings in India.

Google Maps now has extensive details like shops, malls, specific areas for navigating inside 75 Buildings. Internationally this service covers a total of 10,000 buildings spread over 19 countries including India.

How to use Google Maps Indoors? The details are integrated within the Google Maps application. Available for both Mobile as well as Desktop version, one has to merely zoom in using the ‘Map’ view. Additionally users can easily search for the shops and Google Maps will place its tag on top of the building. Thereafter, upon zooming in the application will show the floor number. Users can then click the Floor Numbers to view shops. The floor numbers are placed at the lower right corner for easier navigation while ‘inside’ the building.

Once inside, Google Maps even offers the location of user using the ‘My Location’ option that places a blue dot in the approximate vicinity. Users can then move around the building and Google Maps will refresh the location. Additionally, the users will be displayed all the shops on the floor. Moreover, users can pick a shop and the navigation system will even guide you there. Additionally, this navigation system also shows where the Public Restrooms are.

Indoor Navigation is increasingly becoming a necessary addition with the malls growing large in sizes and complexity. Users routinely feel lost and need to seek out an attendant to confirm their present location and get directions to their intended shop. Though the number of buildings presently covered for Indoor Navigation is very low, Google is inviting Building Owners to submit their Floor Maps. But the search company is specific about buildings that are Private, Government or Security related.
