In a new study researchers have found link between height and cancer. Swedish researchers have wrapped up their findings saying taller people are more prone to skin and breast cancers.

Researchers at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm studied data of about five million people having heights from 3.3ft to 7.4ft. It is found in every extra 4in of height in a fully grown body the risk of cancer increases by 11 percent in men and 18 percent in women.

The study says women who are taller has a greater risk of developing breast cancer by 20 percent compared to short height women and in both the sexes the risk of melanoma skin cancer rises by 20 percent in every 10cm of height.

Details of the study were presented at the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology meeting held recently in Barcelona, Spain.

Lead author of the study, Dr Emelie Benyi, said the disease is multifactorial and hence it is not easy to predict which factor or factors impact their results.

The researchers studied data of people from different official sources and investigated the rate of cancer from 1958 to 2011, or to the age of 20.

Earlier few studies too linked height with cancer.

Meanwhile, it is suggested to give up smoking, say no to alcohol, adopt healthy diet and adopt healthy lifestyle to reduce risk of cancer.
