Understanding The Nutrients of Fertilizers

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

There are three main macronutrients that are essentially present in large amounts in every fertilizer. Understanding how much quantity of each nutrient is required in the soil is essential. It can easily be checked with a soil test; also, it tells you the soil deficiencies. Three numbers are listed on most of the fertilizer’s packaging, separated with dashes (e.g., 20-10-5). These numbers represent the percentages of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, respectively. They are always written in the same order, i.e. (N-P-K).

These nutrients are essential for fertilizers, but more technologically-advanced organisms are being used in the industry today, such as non-GMO plant protein powder. Watch it Grow is one of the best non-GMO protein suppliers in USA.

Like animals and humans, plants also need vitamins such as non-GMO proteins and N-P-K. These proteins are not genetically modified organisms, meaning they have more nutrients and proteins to provide to the plants. For now, let us discuss this N-P-K in detail:

Nitrogen (N) promotes plants’ vegetative growth, such as leaves and plant shoots. Also, it is an essential part of amino acids responsible for creating proteins. Nitrogen is also vital to creating chlorophyll for plants which makes a plant green and is necessary for photosynthesis. Nitrogen evaporates from the soil unlike any other macronutrient, meaning it most often needs replenishment.

Phosphorus (P) promotes the growth of roots and flowers. It is also responsible for the fruits and seeds that follow with a bloom. Phosphorus is necessary for every plant that uses energy such as new cells, water regulation, or photosynthesis.

Potassium (K) activates the enzymes in a plant. These enzymes drive processes that enhance the plants’ ability to fight against stresses. The stress of plants may be caused by cold, heat, drought, transplanting, disease, and pests. Moreover, potassium increases the overall plant health too.

Ending Notes

It is essential to understand the right proportion of macronutrients (N-P-K) to be present in fertilizer according to the nature of the soil. Get your soil tested to understand the deficiency and get the right proportion of your fertilizer accordingly.
