Zentek pre-qualifies to supply graphene coatings for Canada's defense drone program
Zentek has been pre-qualified under the Government of Canada’s Defense Drone Initiative Marketplace, a supplier pool for uncrewed and autonomous systems managed by the Defense Investment Agency on behalf of the Department of National Defense. The five-year supply arrangement runs from August 26, 2026 to July 31, 2031, and lets Zentek respond to task solicitations issued under the program rather than requiring a separate qualification process for each requirement; it is not itself a contract and carries no committed value.
The qualification is based on Zentek’s graphene and graphite-based coatings and specialty materials, including ZEN-EMI-01, a water-based electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding coating made with the company’s purified Albany graphite, for which it filed a provisional patent in August. Zentek framed the result as an early step: ZEN-EMI-01 remains at the laboratory stage, has not been tested or qualified for any defense application, and the company has no related customer agreements. “We are in that ecosystem now, pre-qualified on the materials: the coatings, the specialty materials and the patents behind them. This is the first step in a longer process and we are moving on it,” said Zentek CEO Mohammed (Moe) Jiwan.
