The UN only talks of the atmosphere, but what about the role of the oceans? Ocean absorption and release of CO2 is a complex process. It’s hardly a surprise if warmer oceans absorb less CO2, for example. Argo.net puts it like this: ‘If surface seawater holds less carbon dioxide than the air would support, the ocean absorbs more. If it holds more, carbon dioxide escapes back into the atmosphere.’ But the UN climate crew is only interested in headlines that blame humans for recent warming, with the forthcoming COP31 in mind, making scientifically suspect claims in the process. Historical carbon dioxide levels over millennia have rarely been lower than the current ice age era.

From Phys.org: Greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere rose to new record highs in 2025, locking in climate impacts that will persist for centuries to come, the United Nations said* Tuesday. [*Talkshop comment – claim]
Levels of the three main greenhouse gases—the climate-warming* [*claim] carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide—all rose to unprecedented figures in 2025, the U.N.’s weather and climate agency said.
The World Meteorological Organization said the rise would lead to more long-term temperature increases for the planet.
The WMO’s 22nd annual Greenhouse Gas Bulletin comes ahead of the COP31 U.N. climate summit in Antalya, Turkey, running from Nov. 9 to 20.
“Another year, another new record,” said WMO Deputy Secretary-General Ko Barrett.
“Greenhouse gases are trapping* [*claim] an unprecedented amount of heat in the atmosphere, providing energy for more extreme weather and associated risks to our economies and societies.
“The past 11 years have been the warmest on record and this trend is set to continue. Carbon dioxide (CO₂) has a very long lifetime and so will affect the global climate not just for years but for decades and even centuries.” [Talkshop comment – ignoring the ocean carbon cycle?]
. . .
“Every additional part per million matters because it traps additional heat,” Barrett told reporters. [Talkshop comment – really?]
