How To Grow Big Juicy Tomatoes By Marjory Wildcraft

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Hi,

Want to know how important pruning is to getting big juicy tomatoes?  What about how to handle some of the most common diseases?  Did you know that adding nitrogen later in the season will actually hamper production?

And can you believe that the US Supreme Court actually ruled on the question “is a tomato a fruit or a vegetable?”.  Join us for this podcast and start growing big juicy tomatoes.  I got a chance to interview Annette Welsford who is the co-author the complete book of growing tomatoes.

Remember how my ‘tomato sovereignty project’ had a huge problem with blossom end rot?  Well, I went on a tireade to find the best resource for everything tomatoes and discovered this really excellent resource on – well, everything tomatoes.  I got Annette Welsford who is one of the authors of the book on Skype and got an awesome interveiw for you to listen to.  I am going to do another call with Annette again so if you have a question you want answered on the next call, put that in the comments section – I would love your suggestions for what to ask next time!  Click here to listen and comment:

PS:  Did you pick up that copy of “Ersatz In The Confederacy” which I mentioned last time?  This book is really opening my eyes.  For example, I had assumed that back in the 1860′s most places were largely self-reliant.  It has amazed me to discover that the Southern States (even back then) setup the classic problem of primarily growing a big cash crop (in this case cotton) and sacrificing local sustainability.  The war dramatically revealed just how little local production they had, and how difficult it is to re-build that kind of resiliancy.  I am still fascinated by the small businesses that cropped up – and which ones were successful and which ones failed, and why.

Pick up a copy and we’ll have a discussion about it in a few weeks.  Here is a link to pick the book up at Amazon.
