The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

This weeks farm table.  I really need to take more cinnamon items!  All day Thursday and into the night plus 6 hours Friday baking, then off to the market.  I’m pleased, I came home with just a few loaves of bread.  A cup of coffee to relax while updating my records and then bed for some rest.

Up Saturday morning early, got chores done and myself cleaned up to go to the part time job.  Got my shift in, learned more, help a few people.  Came home and changed, went out for some farm clean up.  Started up the tractor, got set to move a hay bale and the joystick piston breaks.  There goes the bucket loader.  Actually, there goes the whole darn tractor use!  Can’t even drop the bucket off the tractor without the joystick.  Great.  it’s got green paint on it so you know it’s going to be an expensive part.  No chance of getting it fixed any time soon.  Perfect.  So, I commence to cleaning up what I can of what I wanted to do via wheel barrow (lots of sweat and some nasty words), shower and bed.

Sunday is wake up, do chores, clean up and go to the part time job.  Get home, push mow some, more chores and so on.  Hit the bed for an early start to Monday (gonna make cheese) and I get woke up at 3am.  Son has a swelled up eye and is in major pain.  Apparently, he got something in it while I was gone and didn’t bother to tell me about it.  He must have ended up getting it washed out because the ER couldn’t find anything in his eye but suspects he scratched his eyeball.  Great.  So, add an ER bill to things we can’t pay and possibly a trip to an eye doctor if this doesn’t heal quickly.  This is all due to him breaking a gear in the rear differential of his truck Friday.  He’d been working on getting it pulled out without wearing safety glasses….  we haven’t a clue how we’re going to fix the truck, rear diff is $300+…. When it rains, it pours around here.  Just when we thought we could just hang on for a while.

Got home, slept 2 hours thru the alarm ( no surprise there) and wake up to hear the state mower out there mowing the ditches.  I get dressed just in time to see him mow down a couple of trees in my fenceline.  Sweet.  I find my shoes and run out there and ask the man to stop mowing so close to my fences since last time he mowed, he shoved a hunk of tree thru it and ruined 3 fencing panels (at $25 each).  He apologized and promised to not mow so close.  Won’t do any good tho, he’ll do the same dang thing next time around.

So, I did manage to get a gallon of milk from Goober this morning before the calf realized she wasn’t in the pen.  I put her in it last night so I could get some milk this morning.  That calf is drinking every drop of milk Goober can make.  Calf is big enough (old enough) now to be weaned.  I did let her have the other 2 teats and everybody is happy out there.  Goats were out in the back fenceline grazing so they’ll get fed when they come back up.

So, here’s me with a mixed look on my face, contemplating my next move…..
