Home security is an important issue and should be taken with the utmost seriousness. If you have a garden that you lovingly tend to, the last thing you want is for your beloved plants to become tasty snacks for creepy crawlies and other kinds of pests.

Fortunately, you don’t need to immediately reach for the harsh chemicals to spray all over your garden – there are plenty of organic methods to try when you need to protect your home and garden from pests, and plenty of pest control services to handle what is left.

However, animal and critter pests aren’t the only things you need to protect your home against. Garden theft is a serious and growing issue, so you also need to prep your property to be immune to break-ins.

There are hundreds of thousands of outdoor property thefts that take place every year, so follow these tips to help protect your property:

1. Install Fences and Gates

One of the best ways to protect your home and garden is with the first level of defense: fencing. A sturdy security fence or wall will create an outer boundary that will provide some extra privacy and safety to your home and garden.

Securing the boundaries of your property, including your backyard, is helpful against potential home or garden burglary. It is important to do your research and contact a professional installation service for the most secure and long-lasting final results.

2. Invest in Security Cameras

Proper security cameras and other types of alarm systems will deter any potential trespassers from entering your property or peeking in through your shed windows. Most of the time, wrongdoers will simply bypass a yard that they see has an outdoor security system in place.

If you don’t have any external power supply available, don’t worry! There are plenty of battery-powered options available that can help protect your gates, storage sheds, home, and garden. There are also solar powered options if you wish to go the truly eco-friendly route.

3. Light it Up

One of the easiest ways to increase your garden security and the safety of your property overall is with lighting. Statistics have shown that over 20% of burglars would take this into consideration when they are selecting a target. Motion activated yard LED lights are very helpful to have when a potential trespasser approaches your property, the sudden burst of bright light could startle them and give them a reason to leave.

4. Lock Down Your Valuables

Your valuables can include everything from your bike sheds, exotic flowers, gnomes, barbeques, and anything else that is very important to you and also very tempting to thieves. Secure all of your favorite garden furniture and your sheds to ensure that they stay with you for a long, long time.

Follow these simple tips to protect your prized possessions:

  • Take anything valuable and keep it inside. Cover your outdoor furniture when it is not in use to keep it out of sight and out of the minds of others.
  • Valuable statues, planters, and gnomes can be protected by anchoring them down and by chaining them to a wall bolt. Another option is to cement them tightly.

5. Get a Dog

Some people may find this surprising but adding a dog to your family can help protect your home and gardens to a certain degree. Obviously, the bigger and the fiercer the canine looks, the more it will deter prying eyes. However, any dog at all that will bark when someone walks on your property will alert your neighbors and most likely scare any burglars away.

While you can’t be completely reliant upon a dog to take care of everything, it is definitely a significant option.

Plus, you get the added love and affection that comes with being a dog owner.

      Hello Angle#3,

Charlie here. Strangely, sometimes securities defeat its own purpose. Too much privacy (fences) can also mask their crimes, a dog can be quieted very easily or made to bark in the wrong direction giving a false sense of security. Lights can make YOU a target.

Possibly the very best security is not to have any. Everything open and made to look common. Cameras only record your very own employees stealing 9 out of 10 times.

Would you buy doughnuts from a facility that looks like a Fort Knox???

      Signed,

Charlie (Knox, knox. Who’s there? Me, I want to buy some doughnuts!)
