Comet ISON on October 15, 2013 - Getting Brighter!

It has been just over a week since I last imaged Comet ISON.  This morning (Tuesday, October 15, 2013) Comet ISON, Mars and Regulus were in a line in the early morning sky.  It was a beautiful pairing of Mars and the bright blue star, Regulus, that could be seen with the naked eye.  Comet ISON was there, too.  However, you need optical aid to see it, preferably a large telescope.  Photographically, it is a very nice grouping with the right equipment.

I was geared up to get a close-up of the comet,  though, so I didn’t get the shot with all three objects in the frame.  But, what I did get was a reasonable image of just Comet ISON:

Tomorrow morning, October 16, 2013, Mars and Regulus are still pretty close together and Comet ISON will be closest to Mars just to the left of both, slowly moving away towards its rendevous with the Sun in late November.  My plan is to try for the wide-field view to catch all three objects in the frame tomorrow on the morning of October 16, 2013, if the weather cooperates.  Wish me luck!

Edit:

Here is the wide-field view of the ISON-Mars-Regulus triple conjunction that I was hoping to get on the morning of October 16th:

      WOW! Those are amazing pics!
So, you think this 12/16 stuff is not an issue, no ELM event 12/16-1/14/2014?
I am reading stuff all over the place, but you seem to have a good handle.
      Best,
      Gunny

Gunny, thanks. I’m glad you liked the pics.

I don’t think the 12/16 stuff is real. There’s nothing happening on that date that’s connected with ISON. There’s nothing ISON left behind that’s of any consequence that’s in our path, either.

The 1/14/2014 date is when we cross the incoming path of Comet ISON. That path was laid down sometime on or before Nov 1, 2013. Since that was before ISON broke up, there’s nothing but some small dust grains that the comet was leaving behind at the time.

Plus, it actually passed above the Earth’s orbit on the incoming leg of its journey, so any bigger than micron size particles are probably still up there and only the smaller particles that can be pushed down by the solar wind would be below the original orbit and in our path. It would be nice to see a meteor shower from that, but I don’t think we’ll get much of a show since the grains are too small.

As far as the debris from the break up of Comet ISON that’s now too dim to see (dimmer than 17th magnitude, according to the latest data on Spaceweather.com,) whatever is left will pass 40 million of more miles above us on about December 26th, 2013. Despite what you might have heard here on BIN about the size of the cloud, it has no chance of hitting us on that date. Its too far away.

FYI, there’s lots of dis-info that the PTB are promoting right now. They’ll do anything to keep us off balance and unaware of the actual facts of what’s happening in the world today. BIN is a prime place for them to plant the seeds of this dis-info. The fanatics, weirdos and crazies who frequent this site will do the rest and spread it widely. lol
