The Giants blasted their way past the Phillies tonight, scoring six runs in the 8th inning and hanging on for another huge road win. I missed the game as I was out celebrating with friends, a rare occurrence these days. It was a splendid evening, made even more splendid when checking the Giants score and seeing the fabulous result. Buster Posey hit two homers, both off starter Zack Wheeler. Tommy La Stella hit one off the former Giants farmhand as well. The real damage was done off reliever Conner Brogdon, who surrendered two three-run bombs, one by Alex Dickerson and one by Wilmer Flores. You have to wonder why the Phils stuck with Brogdon for eight batters–maybe they were short-handed with the COVID situation.

No matter. The matchup tonight certainly favored Philadelphia, but the Giants were able to get to Wheeler and keep it close despite a poor start from Logan Webb.

“Our pitching has been incredible for us to this point,” Dickerson said. “It was time for us to put the foot on the gas and really start producing.” (ESPN recap)
