Jets add Veteran Depth in QB Tim Boyle and DT Quinton Jefferson

Joe Douglas kept himself busy yesterday by adding some depth at quarterback and on the defensive line by adding Tim Boyle and Quinton Jefferson respectively.

Quinton Jefferson, who turned 30 last week, had 5.5 sacks, 6 TFLs and 14 additional QB hits last year for Seattle, while playing in all 17 games with 3 starts. #Jets add much needed talent to the D-Line. Jefferson is the more experienced of the two and figures to be a regular on the Jets defensive line rotation. In 17 games last season (3 starts) Jefferson logged 29 tackles and 5.5 sacks. Among all defensive linemen with over 300 snaps played last season, Jefferson’s overall grade of 47.3 ranked 99th in the NFL according to Pro Football Focus.

Meanwhile, Boyle brings a signal caller with some knowledge of Nathaniel Hackett’s offense as he spent the past four years in Green Bay with the Packers. He has 3 career starts (all losses) and has thrown 3 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. An undrafted free agent out of Connecticut where he threw 1 touchdown to 13 interceptions in three seasons, having Boyle end up as anything more than a practice squad quarterback would be a bit of surprise.

The Jets are still expected to host another former Seahawk defensive tackle in Al Woods.
