OTL: Optimism in Baltimore as Minicamp Comes to a Close

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

The Baltimore Ravens officially wrapped up their 2026 offseason program, as the second and final day of mandatory minicamp ended Wednesday. The Ravens enter 2026 as one of 10 NFL teams kicking off the year with new head coaches, as Jesse Minter takes over for John Harbaugh. It’s a new era in Charm City, but the expectations remain the same as Baltimore currently holds the third highest odds at becoming Super Bowl champions(+1000). Minter and his supporting cast looked to set the tone with their offseason program, and all signs point to exactly that. High attendance and accountability seemed to be the daily storyline, and for a first year head coach like Minter, it’s exactly what he needed to get off on the right foot.

Veteran Attendance and Accountability

For Minter, getting not only his young guys in the building, but his established veteran leaders as well, is nothing but exceptional for a first year head coach to kick off the offseason program. From Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry, to Roquan Smith and Kyle Hamilton, Baltimore’s veterans showed up in full support of their new coaching regime. When speaking with the media Wednesday, Hamilton stated one thing that has stood out to him regarding Minter is “there is no grey area.” A huge statement from a lot of players under the last coaching staff was the “confusion” at times within the secondary and their coverages.

It’s a positional group that’s looking for a bounce-back as a whole. Baltimore finished 2nd-last in passing yards allowed last season (249.7), sitting behind just the Dallas Cowboys, another team who missed the postseason. It’s a secondary that lost both Alohi Gilman and Ar’Darius Washington to free agency, but managed to reel in free agent Jaylinn Hawkins and re-sign Chidobe Awuzie. If Baltimore’s defense can get Marlon Humphrey to bounce back from his awful 2025, then a return to form could truly be on the horizon.

Are The Ravens Really Going to Pay Humphrey $19.25M in 2026?

Possibly the most important veteran to make his appearance – which he did throughout nearly the entire program – was Jackson, as the QB is set to enter year nine, and his first without Harbaugh at the helm. Getting in the building and getting newly hired offensive coordinator Declan Doyle’s offense under his belt is huge for the Ravens, who look to re-write their offensive struggles from a season ago. Jackson has been very vocal in his support of the new offense, along with a number of other Ravens stars. Wide receiver Rashod Bateman was not present on the field throughout workouts, but is expected to play a key role in Baltimore’s offense in 2026.

There remains a glowing vibe around the team even after minicamp wrapped up yesterday. Competition and accountability seem to be huge focal points in setting the tone for the season. From removing players from mental mistakes to offense vs. defense post-practice competitions, it’s clear a new regime has taken over The Castle. Holding players accountable isn’t always easy for a first time coach trying to win over his team, especially when it’s a team of so many established stars.

It’s not just Minter putting his foot down as head coach, but his supporting cast isn’t holding back either. During an 11-on-11 period on Wednesday, tight end Mark Andrews was called for a false start, and was immediately pulled from the next play. It’s not the first time that we’ve seen or heard of instances like this. Ending the mental mistakes early will without a doubt play a factor as the season approaches. You don’t want to see a new head coach come in and begin a dictatorship, but establishing a standard on pre-snap alignment needs to be set regardless of tenure. Competition seems to be key in Minter’s practice strategies, and it could possibly become a reality for kicker Tyler Loop. When speaking with the media after practice Wednesday, Minter stated the team could look to bring in kicking competition for Loop, who still put together a strong offseason performance. The second-year kicker spoke with the media for the first time since his post-game interview following his time-expiring missed kick in Week 18 last year. He admitted to watching the play the day after, and taking a day or two before moving on. It’s exactly what the team as a whole needs to do, to move on from a severely underachieving 2025.

For a season that was nothing but a disappointment last year, it’s hard to not see the true potential and culture forming within the building.
