OTL: Where Do Potential Holes Remain on Ravens Roster?
The Ravens prepare to begin the 2026 season with a plethora of changes to the roster, coaching staff, and culture. They’ve revamped the offensive line and wide receiver rooms and addressed two positional needs on defense with two established veterans in Trey Hendrickson and Jaylinn Hawkins. Baltimore also watched as a number of key starters from a season ago signed with new squads on the opening of this offseason’s free agency period, but showed a willingness to not just sit back and become complacent with roster losses.
As mini camp wrapped up last week and training camp slowly approaches, just where do the Ravens roster holes lie?
Is a Veteran Receiver Needed?
The Ravens receiver corps saw a wave of youth enter the group over the last two seasons, as the team selected LaJohntay Wester in last year’s draft before picking Ja’Kobi Lane and Elijah Sarratt this year. Tylan Wallace left for Cleveland, while veteran wideout DeAndre Hopkins remains unsigned following his one-year deal in 2025 with the Ravens. Baltimore’s two oldest receivers are 26 – Rashod Bateman and rookie UDFA Cortez Braham Jr. – with only two having four or more years of experience (Bateman and Zay Flowers).
It raises the question: Do the Ravens need to add a veteran to the group? There are a number of household-name veterans still available, should Baltimore elect to add one prior to camp. Deebo Samuel, Keenan Allen, Tyreek Hill, Stefon Diggs, and Hopkins are viewed as the top remaining pass-catchers available. Hill and Diggs have had their run-ins with the law over the last few seasons, which makes you believe they’re off DeCosta’s radar. Samuel is coming off a solid season with the Washington Commanders, despite Jayden Daniels missing most of the 2026 campaign. In 16 games, Samuel finished with 72 receptions (T-30th), 727 receiving yards (42nd), 5 TDs (T-44th), and an average of 10.1 yards per reception (86th). His ability to play as a gadget on offense makes him an intriguing potential addition to the Ravens, with Declan Doyle set to call plays as offensive coordinator. Allen and Hopkins are both prepared to enter year 14 in the league. Allen is coming off an 81-reception season, playing in all 17 games with the Chargers, and surpassing 1,000 career receptions and 12,000 career receiving yards. Hopkins has familiarity with Lamar Jackson, but never really found himself included in the offense after the first few weeks of the season. Hopkins began the season with four receptions, 99 yards, and two touchdowns, but would ultimately finish the year with just 20 receptions, 231 yards, and not a single additional score. The absence of Jackson could have played a real role in the ultimate production from Hopkins last year, but it doesn’t reduce the presence and leadership he brought to the position group.
Could an Edge Rusher Still be Added?
Edge rusher has been a real topic of conversation in Baltimore this (and seemingly every) offseason. From a turned-back trade for Maxx Crosby, to Trey Hendrickson’s signing, to a fiery Zion Young selection in the second round, the Ravens have done their due diligence on a true positional need. The front office has made its additions to the position over the last two offseasons, with Hendrickson, Young, and Mike Green selected in the 2025 draft, but could another veteran be on the horizon? David Ojabo and Dre’Mont Jones both left during free agency, and Kyle Van Noy still sits waiting for a call. The Ravens have young and promising talent at the position, but bringing in another established pass rusher could help take the load off the younger guys on the field. Joey Bosa, Haason Reddick, and Jadeveon Clowney are a few of the more intriguing guys still available. Bosa would reunite with Minter, who served as his defensive coordinator in 2024. The Buffalo Bills free agent is coming off a five-sack, 29-tackle, and five-forced fumble season in Orchard Park, but remains unsigned ahead of year eleven. Reddick truly broke out in 2020, recording four straight seasons of 11+ sacks before a trade to the Jets and a holdout later halted production. After recording 50.5 sacks from 2020-24, Reddick produced just 3.5 across 23 games with the Jets (10 games) and Buccaneers (13g). You’d have to imagine there’d be no expectations for Reddick to be a complete game wrecker, but adding him to a rotation with Hendrickson, Green, Young, and Tavius Robinson could be a lethal pass rush room. Fans will obviously have to wait to see how a Minter-run defense looks with the Ravens defensive stars, but the potential pre-camp additions could be possible difference makers as the season progresses.
