Risers: A series on Ravens who we suspect could take a step up in 2026

In a season filled with high expectations and low production, the 2025 Ravens’ offensive line waged an epic battle with the entire defense in terms of blowing up any reasonable chance to reach the heights many expected the team to reach.

There was no Super Bowl. No division title. No playoffs.

And while it’s easy to lay that last wreath on the foot of kicker Tyler Loop following his gag-job against the Steelers in the closing seconds of last year’s winner-take-all finale, that wouldn’t exactly be right. The team had numerous opportunities to put themselves in stronger postseason position throughout the campaign, only to fall flat due to a dizzying array of missed tackles and whiffed blocks.

To their credit, the organization did not take this disastrous season lightly. They changed coaching staffs. They added a premier pass-rusher after trying to trade for… let’s not go through that again. Let’s just say they addressed the pass-rush.

And they have re-made the interior of the offensive line, bringing back veteran guard John Simpson, drafting Vega Ioane in the first round to play the other guard spot and, well, still trying to figure out how to plug that hole in the pivot. But we do know it will be a new face, with Tyler Linderbaum trading in his crab cakes for a roulette wheel in Las Vegas.

With all that change in the interior, the Ravens are banking on their tackles, Ronnie Stanley and Roger Rosengarten, to provide dependability and leadership for that unit. Stanley has held this status for some time now, as he has performed every bit as well as anyone could expect from a first-round pick when he hasn’t been fighting injury concerns. Rosengarten, while still not to that level, appears to be approaching it quickly.

The tackle out of Washington had some rookie struggles during the 2024 campaign, but really smoothed out down the back half, and put together some memorable performances against the likes of TJ Watt, and made the Pro Football Writers of America All-Rookie Team. He came into the 2025 with pretty big expectations, but seemed to struggle along with the rest of his line-mates at the start of the season. Towards the second half, however, Rosengarten looked more like that player from the end of the 2024 season — but even better.

His stats tell the story. In 2024, he ranked 44th out of 81 eligible tackles by PFF with an overall rating of 66.9 — 70.0 in pass-blocking, and 60.7 in the run game. Turn the page to 2025, and his overall finished 25th out of 89 tackles with an overall mark of 74.5, scoring 73.4 in pass-blocking and 74.8 in the run. He’s also only had four penalties in each of his first two seasons, according to Pro Football Reference, and didn’t commit a single holding violation in 2025.

When Rosengarten began to blossom at the end of his rookie season, the talk was that he could eventually move back to his natural left tackle position when Stanley steps aside. It quieted down a lot during his difficult start to the 2025 year, but has picked up again with the improvement he showed, and his ability to perform admirably against the likes of Watt and Myles Garrett when given the opportunity.

We talk about wanting players who impact positions other than their own — the “Lamar Jackson effect,” as Ravens fans like to say. You know, Jackson’s abilities as a runner changes the numbers on offense and helps the running backs, while his ability to throw on the run and under duress allow receivers more time to spring open and gain explosive plays.

Kyle Hamilton shows this, as well, as it has been proven time and time again that he can improve the overall play of any unit on the defensive side of the ball simply by moving there.

Rosengarten can do this, as well. He can be a “force multiplier” by helping the first-round pick next to him this season, which can help the new center next to him and so on. And if the Ravens do feel like he could play either side of the line effectively when Stanley moves on, well, that doubles the options for the decision-makers if they can scout college and pro tackles for either side and simply bring in who they think can help the most, regardless of side.

It would be a good year for Rosengarten to make that leap — especially when you consider he is eligible for new money after this coming season.
