Stephanie White speaks out as vet steps away from Fever for personal reasons

Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White

It isn’t just Caitlin Clark who has popped up on the Indiana Fever’s injury report for Thursday’s marquee matchup against Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream. Veteran center Damiris Dantas was also listed in the report for personal reasons.

The good news for head coach Stephanie White is that both Clark and Dantas are listed as probable to play, meaning they should be available for Thursday’s home game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Clark is still nursing a back issue, which is the same injury that forced her to sit out their May 20 matchup against the Portland Fire. Dantas, on the other hand, is dealing with an undisclosed personal matter.

Stephanie White addresses Indiana Fever vet Damiris Dantas’ absence

Coach White spoke to reporters on Wednesday during practice. Dantas was nowhere to be seen on the court, which piqued the media’s interest.

White acknowledged Dantas’ personal issue but did not provide any details.

“Yeah, I mean, it’s day-to-day right now with DD,” White said. “She’s dealing with some personal stuff, and we want to give her the time that she needs to be able to deal with that.

“And so, you know, I don’t know after today. We’ll see. But we’re just going to give her the time that she needs.”

Coach White did not want to divulge any information she may have on Dantas’ unexpected absence. However, the Fever bench boss made it clear that the team will support the 6-foot-4 center throughout her current ordeal by giving her as much time as she needs.

The fact that Dantas is listed as probable to play on Thursday could indicate the issue is not overly serious.

Dantas has made four appearances for Indiana this season. She is averaging 4.0 points and 1.0 rebounds in 9.3 minutes per contest.
