Chicago Bears 2022 draft pick pens goodbye letter
The Chicago Bears decided to move on from a 2022 draft pick this offseason as they rebuilt the safety position.
The Bears let Kevin Byard III, Jaquan Brisker, Jonathan Owens, and C. J. Gardner-Johnson leave in free agency before drafting Dillon Thieneman in the first round and signing Coby Bryant in free agency.
Brisker, a second-round pick in 2022, signed a one-year, $5.5 million deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers in free agency. He appeared in 52 games for the Bears, recording 342 tackles, seven sacks, four interceptions, and four forced fumbles during his time with the team.
On Saturday, Brisker posted a goodbye message on X to Bears fans, thanking them for their support during his first four years in the league.

“Very, very overdue,” Brisker wrote. “The fans and city of Chicago deserve this! To the city of Chicago, it’s been nothing but love since the day I was drafted! The love, energy, passion of the fans I felt it immediately. Thank you for letting me live my DREAM, hearing my name called, and being drafted! Also, welcoming my family and me for 4 wonderful years.
“Everything we’ve been through from the start to get to here , it’s been a JOURNEY! One where these memories will last forever. Can’t say enough about the great things about the city of Chicago and their beautiful fans! I appreciate the fans for always showing up, no matter what. You guys stay true! I mean it from the bottom of my heart, I will forever love you all. The memories, everything. Seeing the 9 jerseys all around the stadium with the Brisker on the back was special and will always go a long way! I left it better than what I found it !”
Brisker was a solid contributor on defense when he was on the field. However, he struggled to stay healthy during games and missed several games due to multiple concussions. He appeared and started in all 17 games for Chicago in 2025, helping the team win the NFC North and defeat the Green Bay Packers in the Wild-Card Round.
Brisker thanked his former teammates on the Bears and the organization for helping his career.
“To my teammates, I thank you,” Brisker wrote. “The love, support, memories, and brotherhood we built together over the years will forever go far! My brothers for life . Grateful for the organization and every fan who loved me through it all. Y’all changed my life. Forever a bear . This will always be my home.”
For now, Pittsburgh is the home for Brisker. He was frustrated with the market in free agency this offseason. He’s on a one-year prove-it deal with the Steelers.
If Brisker has a good season in 2026, he could look to sign a long-term deal in the 2027 offseason.
