Chicago Bears fans can’t help but laugh at latest Packers jab

Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers

The Chicago Bears finally broke the curse of the Green Bay Packers last season, winning the NFC North division title and defeating the Packers in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.

While the Bears lost their initial 2025 meeting with Green Bay at Lambeau Field, they staged furious rallies in both matchups in Chicago, stunning the Packers for a pair of thrilling wins in front of a rabid Soldier Field crowd.

Many have the Bears tabbed as NFC North favorites and potential Super Bowl contenders heading into 2026. Meanwhile, Green Bay is scrambling after a rather uneventful offseason and knowing that Micah Parsons will likely be out for the first half of the year, at least.

Of course, Chicago has some question marks of its own, and it doesn’t help that it plays in the most rugged division in all of football. But Bears fans can actually take some pleasure in ribbing the Packers for the first time in what feels like forever.

On that note, the Windy City faithful will certainly get a kick out of a recent piece by Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton, which labeled Green Bay wide receiver Christian Watson as one of the NFL’s most overpaid players.

Chicago Bears fans can laugh at the Green Bay Packers again

Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers
Chicago Bears linebacker T.J. Edwards (53) breaks up a pass intended for Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson (9) in the endzone in the second quarter during their football game Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois.

The Packers signed Watson to a four-year, $92 million extension earlier in the offseason, and Moton can’t help but feel that Green Bay was taken for a ride.

“In four seasons, Watson has yet to finish a campaign with more than 41 catches or 620 receiving yards. Because of injuries, he’s been unable to play through a full term, missing 20 career games,” Moton wrote. “Keep in mind that the Packers also signed wideout Jayden Reed to an extension, and they have paved the way for Matthew Golden to take a Year 2 leap at the same position. Watson is paid like a lead receiver, but based on his recent production, he could finish third among Packers wideouts in several pass-catching categories.”

Watson played in 10 games last season, catching 31 passes for 611 yards and six touchdowns. He is certainly a tremendous vertical threat, as evidenced by the fact that he boasts a career average of 17 yards per grab, but consistency has been a major issue for the 27-year-old. So has staying on the field.

The Bears have some pretty significant questions in their secondary, particularly at the cornerback position. To be quite frank, that absolutely does make Chicago a bit vulnerable to Green Bay’s receivers, a group that also includes overlooked second-year talent Savion Williams.

But that doesn’t excuse the Packers from handing Watson such a lucrative extension for not accomplishing all that much.
