Chicago White Sox predicted to trade for RHP Jose Soriano ahead of 2026 MLB trade deadline
The Chicago White Sox are 53-46 on the season, which is good for first place in the American League Central Division. They currently have a +52 run differential, which is the second-best in the American League and fifth-best in all Major League Baseball.
Indeed, the White Sox are the biggest surprise in baseball this year. From 2023-2025, they lost 100+ games every season. No one expected them to be much better in 2026, but here they are knocking on the door of a postseason berth.
As the MLB trade deadline approaches, Chicago is now seen as a buyer whereas previous seasons saw them selling their best players to contending clubs.
The Chicago White Sox are predicted to trade for Jose Soriano
Recently, Bleacher Report published an article in which they made eight bold predictions for the 2026 MLB trade deadline. One of them was that the White Sox would acquire Los Angeles Angels right-handed starting pitcher Jose Soriano:
“Will José Soriano really be available in the next two weeks? According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, he is, in fact, expected to be.
“But one is skeptical, precisely because one knows the Los Angeles Angels are still ultimately in Arte Moreno’s hands. If there’s anything he hates, it’s greenlighting trades of star players.
“There’s perhaps even more uncertainty on the Chicago White Sox’s side of this. They lead the AL Central and do need starting pitching, but this is Year 1 of hopefully a multi-year contention cycle. As per Scott Merkin of MLB.com, Pale Hose GM Chris Getz should not be expected to sacrifice the farm depth he’s built just to ‘jump at a one-year possibility.’
What has many questioning whether or not the White Sox will be overly active at the trade deadline is the fact that it is unknown whether they want to risk losing assets for players that will be free agents at the end of the year.
Soriano, though, is under club control through the 2029 season. He is currently 8-6 with a 3.43 ERA in 21 starts. That being said, he also leads the American League in walks given up (54).
All things considered, Soriano would be the kind of player that Chicago should attempt to acquire at the trade deadline. He is a proven talent and has years of club control remaining. Regardless of whether or not the White Sox make a deep postseason run this year, he would be around for a while.
