Chicago White Sox stand pat in top-10 of latest MLB power rankings
Prior to the start of the 2026 MLB season, the Chicago White Sox were listed last or second-to-last in just about every publication’s power rankings. And who could blame them! After all, the White Sox had gone three straight years without fielding any semblance of a competitive team. They lost more than 100 games in each of thoes three seasons.
But as the 2026 season has progressed, Chicago has emerged as one of the best teams in the American League. At 52-46, they are in first place in the AL Central by a full game, and have one of the most exciting young rosters in the game.
The Chicago White Sox maintain the ninth spot in Bleacher Report’s MLB power rankings
Going into the MLB All-Star break, Bleacher Report had the White Sox listed as ninth on their power rankings list. After Chicago won two out of three against the Toronto Blue Jays, they have maintained that spot:
“At 31-17, the White Sox have one of the best home records in baseball, so picking up a series win on the road against a Blue Jays team fighting to stay in the contender hunt was a nice way to start the second half. Over his first 162 career games, Colson Montgomery logged a 119 wRC+ with 44 home runs and 108 RBI, and he has quickly developed into a franchise cornerstone.”
As one can see, White Sox shortstop Colson Montgomery got special recognition in their explanation for the White Sox ranking. So far this season, he is hitting .224/.307/.477 with 24 home runs and 57 RBI. Since he came into the league, he leads all MLB shortstops in home runs.
The power from Montgomery is undeniable, and ensures that he will be a useful player for years to come. That being said, he needs to draw more walks in order to really be considered an elite batter.
