Bears Preseason Starts August 15: Three Roster Battles That Will Decide the Final 53

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Ben Johnson, Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears have three preseason games and almost no recovery time after the last one. Cleveland visits Soldier Field on August 15, Chicago travels to Cincinnati on August 22, and the Bears finish at Tennessee on August 29. The NFL’s mandatory cut to 53 arrives August 30 before 5 p.m. Central.

That sequence turns every special-teams snap into evidence. Established starters may need limited work, leaving the staff to evaluate players whose value depends on position flexibility, coverage units and clean assignment football. Three competitions stand out before Week 1: the final receiver jobs, cornerback depth and long snapper.

Three Saturdays, Three Different Tests

Date Opponent Location Main Evaluation
August 15 Cleveland Browns Soldier Field First live personnel combinations and return units
August 22 Cincinnati Bengals Paycor Stadium Road communication, protection and coverage discipline
August 29 Tennessee Titans Nissan Stadium Final bubble-player snaps before cutdown

Preseason snap counts require context. Thirty-five offensive snaps against deep reserves are not automatically worth more than eight with the second unit and two core special-teams assignments. Coaches will grade the personnel group, assignment, opponent level and the player’s work away from the ball.

In the final game, players may sit because the staff has enough tape or play heavily because the decision remains open.

Battle One: The Last Receivers Must Earn Their Seats Elsewhere

Chicago’s receiver room contains several job descriptions. Kalif Raymond brings veteran return value after 24 catches for 289 yards in 2025 and 32 punt returns for 241 yards. Rookie Zavion Thomas arrived with 4.28 speed, college production as a receiver and runner, and punt-return experience. Their range raises the standard for everyone behind the main offensive rotation.

Jahdae Walker has the strongest recent NFL receiving evidence among the bubble group. He caught six passes for 87 yards and two touchdowns over the final three regular-season games of 2025. Maurice Alexander, JP Richardson, Scotty Miller, Kaden Davis, Kyron Hudson and Omari Kelly offer speed, return work and developmental size.

The question is not simply who catches the most passes. Who lines up correctly outside and in the slot? Who blocks when the call goes away from him? Who can cover a kickoff, work as a gunner or handle an emergency return assignment without forcing another specialist onto the 53?

A fifth or sixth receiver must make the game-day active list useful.

Watch the second and third quarters against Cleveland. They should show whether Walker’s late-2025 production earns earlier snaps and whether Thomas receives offensive touches beyond returns. By Tennessee, the receivers still taking every special-teams rep will reveal where uncertainty remains.

Battle Two: Cornerback Depth Must Cover Several Packages

The cornerback competition rewards versatility. Josh Blackwell and Jaylon Jones own special-teams value, while Terell Smith returns after missing the 2025 season with a knee injury. Fourth-round rookie Malik Muhammad II brings 4.42 speed and experience in man and zone coverage.

Blackwell’s 2025 defensive workload was tiny, but his special-teams moments were not. He blocked a late field-goal attempt against Las Vegas and recovered a key onside kick against Green Bay. Jones recorded 12 special-teams tackles, production that keeps a reserve corner active on Sundays.

Smith and Muhammad make a different argument: outside-corner traits and defensive upside. The staff must balance outside depth with the different tackling and coverage demands of nickel and dime packages. A corner who can move inside in an emergency and cover kicks saves a roster place elsewhere.

Read the preseason tape by personnel grouping. Note which corners enter with the second defense, who remains in dime packages and who works on kickoff, punt and field-goal block units. One interception helps; repeated assignment trust says more.

Some viewers fill broadcast breaks with short mobile entertainment. A brief session should load quickly and end cleanly when play resumes. In that narrow window, mel-bet.et/en/bingo offers bingo sessions built around defined rules and RNG-based outcomes on the same phone. Stable loading and a fixed session budget matter more than chasing a result between drives. When the Bears return to the field, personnel usage remains the useful evidence.

Battle Three: One Bad Snap Can Decide the Job

Long snapper is the cleanest head-to-head competition and the least forgiving. Luke Elkin spent time in Bears camp before joining the Raiders’ practice squad. Undrafted rookie Beau Gardner arrives after winning the 2025 Patrick Mannelly Award, given to the top long snapper in college football.

The evaluation extends beyond getting the ball to the holder or punter. Coaches time the operation, judge location, inspect protection calls and grade the release into coverage. A punt snap that forces the punter to reach can alter hang time and coverage spacing even when the kick gets away.

The sample is small. A receiver can recover from a drop; a snapper may get only a handful of chances. Gardner owns the award; Elkin owns professional-system experience. Repeatable placement under game timing will decide the job.

The Final 53 Will Reward Combination Players

Chicago’s last decisions are connected. Keeping an extra receiver may reduce the defensive-back count. Carrying a corner who handles four kicking units may free a place for an offensive specialist. Long snapper remains a dedicated role, making certainty there especially valuable.

International Bears followers often track game feeds and regional sports pages together. Their secondary screens usually prioritize scores, lineup news and live statistics. For those fans, Melbet Et represents one regional sports-and-entertainment platform where country-facing odds or live markets may appear. Availability, KYC and settlement terms still depend on jurisdiction. Snap order, personnel packages and special-teams assignments remain the better clues to Chicago’s decisions.

The Tennessee game ends hours before the deadline. For Walker and the crowded receiver room, Blackwell, Jones, Smith and Muhammad at corner, and Elkin and Gardner at long snapper, the last meaningful rep may arrive after much of the stadium has started thinking about Week 1.
