Chicago Bears sign RT Darnell Wright to record $116 million contract extension

The Chicago Bears have many questions that they need to answer during training camp. Recently, the quality of their secondary depth, or lack there of, was highlighted by a serious injury to safety Coby Bryant. He will be out for the next 8-10 weeks, which means he will not be back until well after the season starts.

As the defensive side of the ball tries to figure out how to move forward with their depleted group, the offense is trying to determine which players will make up the offensive line.

Fortunately, the right tackle position has been pretty well solidified in recent years, and will be for the foreseeable future.

The Chicago Bears sign Darnell Wright to a four-year contract extension

On Tuesday afternoon, it was reported by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler that Chicago has reached a four-year contract extension with right tackle Darnell Wright:

As one can see from the post above, Wright’s deal is worth a maximum of $116 million. $93 million of the contract is guaranteed. He is now the highest paid right tackle in NFL history, and has the most guaranteed money of any offensive lineman ever.

Wright was the tenth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, and was entering the final year of his rookie contract (not counting the fifth-year option).

Since being drafted by the Bears, Wright has played in 49 of a possible 51 games. He was named Second Team All-Pro last in 2025.

Now, Chicago needs to figure out who will start opposite him at left tackle.
